Is that my ABS?

When I start off the car, then take off from first gear, i feel a strong vibration under the car for a few seconds, then it's gone. its the exact vibration that happens when i believe the abs turns on. when i skid in the snow and my brakes fail/tremble/lock, i feel that vibration. should I be concerned?

Re: Is that my ABS?

Does it vibrate when you brake? If not, then no, it is not your ABS.

Could be a multitude of things, I'm guessing motor mount, or loose exhaust.

Can you be more specific about when this happens, what it feels like and what it sounds like?

Does it only happen on a specific road? Specific gear? Specific speed? Did it start after you or a mechanic did work on it or you hit a skunk in the road?

Be very specific, and I can be more specific with an answer.

Re: Is that my ABS?

It happens two times, first when i am taking off first gear, right before it reaches ~2500rpm. It'll vibrate for about 2-3 seconds. And it happens when i hit the brakes hard on snow and it skids/locks up. The vibration isn't anything like a loose object, its a real vibration from something like a cell phone. And i can feel it lightly on my feet when it happens.

Re: Is that my ABS?

I meant when it happens when you are driving the car since this issue appeared.

When you slam on the brakes, whether it be dry or wet conditions, you'll feel pedal pulsation. This is the ABS. This is how it functions. It has to do with your brakes.

Vibration you feel during acceleration in first gear has not a thing to do with your ABS, unless your ABS was malfunctioning. And preludes don't have TCS, so it isn't that either. It probably has to do with a completely different system.

Anyway, during first gear, where acceleration forces are pretty much the strongest, the engine wants to twist a bit. If a motor mount or exhaust flange is loose or excessively worn, it will make that kind of vibration.

Does it vibrate at any other speed or any other gear? What work has been done to the car recently, if any?

Re: Is that my ABS?

Well I got the car couple months ago and it's happened for as long as I could remember..

i am very sure that it is the ABS in the beginning. it is the exact vibration when ABS turns on. it's like ABS is activated or something whenever i start take off. It usually only happens when I first takeoff for the day. it never happens at other gears/speed unless i am slamming on the brakes in snowy roads. the car runs fine while its vibrating though, it just bothers me it might be a big problem later on.

i've gotten new front tires and an alignment since, but its happened before these changes..

Re: Is that my ABS?

It's happened on all kinds of roads, so no specific roads. Also, I've had a happen a few times when I start off second gear instead of first. I forgot why, but yea.

Re: Is that my ABS?

Cool, I think this answered my question. My abs light sometimes turns on for 4-6 min then turns off but brakes fine. I also feel the break pedal like vibrate, tremble. When I'm almost to a complete stop. Hmm... normal I'm guessing?
