H22 Questions needing answers asap.

What's the difference between Open & Closed deck blocks?
Do all H22's come with FRM sleeves?
How high is a balanced H22 crankshaft able to rev to?

open deck has large water ports around the pistons and closed deck doesn't.

I think the later h22a's didnt have the frm sleeves dont "" on that

i thought only 97-01 are FRM sleeves... The open decks are 97-01 and closed deck 92-95. I'm unsure about 96 cause its right smack dab in the middle lol

So how high have you seen an h22 rev to? of course with sufficient head work to be able to handle it also.

8k... I only rev up to 7500 but i'm all stock. The tach reads 7900 when I'm actually at 7500.

Well going with a fully balanced Crankshaft, and a completely built head that's able to handle 8500+, what would be a realistic rev limit for the motor? I know I might not make power all the way up there but I'm just addicted to High revs. So I'm looking to build an H22 thats Revs safely to 9000. Is that freakishly possible.

I'd like to see that happen lol. I've heard the h22 tranny doesn't like high-revs?

So which would be better h22 tranny or h23? And does the JDM F22B DOHC Non-vtec come with frm sleeves or iron sleeves?

iron sleeve.....

there are h22's out there that rev anywhere from 8-8500rpms. It depends on your power curve and if you really need to rev that high. you have to remember it's not a b series. 8k on a h22 is like 9.5k on a b series. Think of it like that.

So If I just put new slugs in my f22b all I would need Is to order pistons for an h23? or h22?

And If I balance the crank and rev to 8500 I'll be happy with that but is it possible to do?

Iron sleeves don't come in the H22, or are you saying put iron sleeves in the H22? I trying to figure out wheter or not I can just put lower compression pistons in my red lude before I boost it.

h series frm sleeves. you'd have to resleeve the block and use forged pistons.

what red lude? does it have a f22 in it? if so then boost it.

I know about having to resleeve th H series motors but I was asking about the F22B motor that I have. And yes I have a red prelude here at the house. It has a JDM F22B in it. But it has problems.

1. Fans don't come on, so it overheats after a while.
2. After driving it for a while it'll start sputtering at a stop light then cut off.
3. The clutch squeaks like its a cable clutch. (**** still work though.)
4. The front end has some damage. (Repairable)
5. Needs new hood. (current one looks like hot garbage.)
6. Needs paint job.
7. Complete exhaust system needs to be replaced.
But yes as soon as I find out what needs to be done. It will get boosted. I need to get it running good first.

fix it....

run your own switch wires for the fans. Sputtering and shut off? Check the compression of the engine. see what you get.
