h.g or cracked head?

car overheated shut off immediately, fluid all over ground. had it taken to a shop they found a busted hose they replaced it, only to find oil in the radiator. its been 4 months since this happened i saved 600 dollars now and the car is sitting in my driveway. im so depressed and dont know what to do, i had it towed from the shop cuz i didnt trust them. its a 92 with the h23 , 240k miles. i was just saving to have a new engine put in, i could really use some advice

Re: h.g or cracked head?

That's a tuff one man. I have only seen a few hondas mix oil into the coolant. One possibility is if it's an auto it could be the tranny cooler in the bottom of the rad. I have only seen this happen once though. The other times it was a cracked block. You will have to see if you can find someone who can check it for you(pressure test naked block?) It is very unlikely that you will be able to see anything by removing the head and looking as the crack will probably be very miniscule and the texture of the coolant passages is not smooth. You might see something if you rotate the pistons to their lowest position but there's just no easy way to know for sure that I know of. Maybe someone on here has some more info for you, good luck.

Re: h.g or cracked head?

with 240k, its probably wiser to just swap the motor than to fix it, but it sounds like a hg problem.
