My 5-Speed won't shift into any gear at all?

I just tried to drive my car, but i turned it on and it was all normal, but when i tried to put it in reverse to get out of the driveway, it wouldn't even go into reverse. It felt like it was blocked. The same thing occurred for all the other gears. Could it be the cold weather? Its about 40 degrees Fahrenheit

Also, when it first press on the clutch lightly, it is very very loose, no resistance. I dont remember if that is normal. But towards the very end, there is resistance like normal. If it is the clutch that needs to be replaced, how much does it normally cost?

The gears shift when the car is off

could it be a broken clutch slave cylinder? is there a DIY thread for it?

check ur reservoir, clutch line or slave for leaks.....

when the car is on does the shifter not go into gear at all or goes in but the gear isnt in???

Yeah i have very sure i ran out of fluid. I remember checking awhile ago and it was empty but i just remembered it. What exactly kind of fluid goes in there? I dont know what brand used to be in there, does the brand matter? as long as i get dot 3 or 4 fluid? clutch fluid? also i read i have to bleed the clutch system? Is this difficult and possible to do at night or at lamp post? will it fix instantly as well?

Re: My 5-Speed won't shift into any gear at all?

Your Problem is either the clutch slave or you have air in your lines(especially if you added fluid before or had/have a leak) you can check your clutch slave by going under your car and pressing on the clutch slave(its like black rubberthing under you car, and if you press the rubber theres a metal post under it when you press the post if theres no resistance its a bad clutch slave if theres resistance its not the clutch slave. If theres resistance try adding some break fluid dot3/4 to your resiviour and then bleed your clutch (the directions on how to do it are in these forums somewher). And if bleeding your clutch doesnt help you might need a new clutch. Hope i helped.

Hi guys!! I hope someone can really tell me what exactly the problem in my 98Honda prelude. Last week I was driving my baby like normal people drive I wasn't power shifting or anything and all of a sudden when I stopped on a stop sign I can't seem to shift to any gears!! 3 days a go I replaced the master cylinder and slave cylinder and bled it. But still won't shift to any gears(engine is running) but would shift to any gear(smoothly) when the car is off then I tried to start the car with the 1st gear but it feels like the clutch is not fully engage so it will make a horrible sound and would stall and smells like the clutch is burning so I guess I have to replace the clutch set??

FIY: I never replace any parts like slave and master cylinder before but I am 100% sure I put everything back together and bled the system good.

I guess since your problem was so closely related they may not beat you up too bad even though your very first post was a thread robber haha. But anyway yeah assuming that you properly bled the system and you have the proper amount of travel in your clutch pedal and it still won't go into gear...along with a burning clutch smell...yeah you might need a clutch lol sorry man but hey it could be worse...now you just have an excuse to throw in an upgraded clutch and a lightweight flywheel in there! good luck man
