Universal Mufflers

Would a universal muffler such as a megan muffler have much more hp gains than just an ebay muffler?
I plan on getting a high flow cat and having 2.5 in. piping to a universal muffler. I just dont want to pay 150 bucks on a muffler when I could get a 50 dollar one and get the same effects.

Re: Universal Mufflers

You might get a couple hp...like 2 or something. Maybe 3 with the hi-flow cat.

Re: Universal Mufflers

From a full exhaust system, unless you dump well over a grand into it, maybe 2, I wouldn't expect any more than 2hp from the entire thing.

Very true, you want to keep the exhaust flow as fast and hot as possible for maximum power. High quality materials will keep the gasses hot, and high quality parts will reduce resistance to flow.

Kteller is supposed to have a good stainless steel pipe kit for the preludes, and Vibrant parts seem to please everybody who buys them (including me).

Another thing to note is that cheap parts have inferior construction that will fall apart faster and will definitely sound worse.

My own personal setup is:
tri-y rep header ~$400 shipped
Vibrant Cat, Res, and muffler ~$380 shipped
Custom mandrel bent Stainless Steel 3" piping ~$680

Re: Universal Mufflers

I bought a used Tri-Y replica header (W/test pipe), and new Apex'i WS2 exhaust. The total cost was like $700 after shipping and all. The H22 woke up a little bit, and it's stupid quiet.
