Looking for a parts list!

Hi everyone, I'm new to imports, always been a domestic V8 owner, and I was looking to get a list of parts I should get for a 97 Base Prelude.

I'm looking to get it fast enough to take out the new Mustangs/Camaros, LS2 Vettes, 05/06 GTOs.

NA would be preferred if possible.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

Glad to see not all V8 owners think imports are crap.

Preludes are fairly quick, and the problem with making them faster is there isn't much power you can gain from the h22 powerplant without serious dough being dropped. Especially if you're going N/A.

I would do a sht load more research before attempting to get your lude to outrun vettes, because it won't be a simple bolt-on affair. I'm assuming you already have some idea of what you're getting into. If you really want to go N/A, which is definitely not the most popular choice for imports, then check out ogsmakdade's members ride page and see what went into his. I'm pretty sure he has one of if not the most powerful N/A lude on here. Give you an idea of what all has to go into it.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

He can also check out 98vtec's members ride page. Im pretty sure he's shooting for 300whp na. I could be wrong tho.

But in all honesty, I highly doubt you'll be able to make a all motor prelude faster than a gto/vette or a new camaro ss. Unless its like completely gutted and built to all hell. If those are ur goals tho, I would go boost. But thats just my opinion. It will be easier and much much cheaper that way

Yeah I was thinking about 98vtec but I wasn't sure if he was boost or not.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

Yeah N/A is going to require SERIOUS money if you want to take out those cars... especially in a heavy ass prelude.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

Blakes (98VTEC) car isn't boosted. Honestly if you're looking to be faster than Vettes, your most reasonable option is boost. N/A is just really god damn expensive.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

I know someone out in houston that will take my car and take it up to 3.0L(decked sleeved, frozen) and rebuild the tranny to support it for 6grand. Unfortunately I don't remember how much he said I would get out of it.

If I have to run boost I will, but I've heard H22s and boost don't like each other very much, could be completely wrong though. Give me a boost list then =D

As far as what havik said, I respect all cars, I'm not one of those stuck-up V8 owners that will only drive a domestic =P all cars have potential. I saw a Nissan Cube beat a Z06 Vette like a month ago. I couldn't keep up to find out what the hell the Cube had done to it lol.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

I don't think you can bore out an H22 to 3L. I believe there is a guy that went to 2.7L, but even that is pushing it real hard.

As far as boost goes, they're fine on small amounts of boost making relatively small amounts of horsepower. They don't have your standard iron sleeves though, they have FRM sleeves. The problem with FRM sleeves (not so much the sleeves, but actually the ringlands) is that under high amounts of boost/power, they don't last long. Once you sleeve the block and throw some shiny new internals at it, it will be a great motor waiting to take buttloads of boost (and return the favor with buttloads of power).

3.0 ...is that even possible!! =o id say if you wanted more displacement go with the 2.4 crower stroker kit.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

If I go boost I'm definitely sleeving the block. I'll find out more about the 3.0L but he sounded pretty sure that he could do it...

I completely built my coronet by myself, and have helped friends work on their RSX Type S, and Preludes, so I'm sure I can get a lot of it done myself. Also rebuild the top half of the engine on my Camaro when it was still LT1, now that is a pain in the ass hahah.

But I figured I would sleeve it, cam, heads, before attempting to throw any boost in it at all.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

If you're stuck on going boost, I wouldn't worry about cams. Lots of people stick with the stock cams when they boost and make ****loads of power. But you said headwork, so a port and polish, valve job, and maybe a new intake manifold should help you make more power.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

Well if you wanted to go N/A I think the best option would be h23 vtec with h23 rods and type S pistons. I'm pretty sure blake said that'd get you up to 12:1 compression.

Although a H23 with vtec is also a very good route to go for boost too, although I'm pretty sure you'd want to keep compression down for boost.

I'm not an expert with engines though, so I'd take what dbd and others have to say more seriously.

Anyway, if you're aiming to go fast and don't care so much about resale value, then I'd start with dropping some weight. That would include A/C, P/S and C/C deletes, balance shaft delete would be a good idea, and a lightweight flywheel (only if you're going N/A).

Also be sure to change the timing belt and do a h23 manual timing belt tensioner conversion. If you plan on putting down serious power, you're going to need it. Hell, you need it running stock.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

Awesome, thanks for the info. Right now I'm getting some eibach coil overs, and my friend has some projectors he's going to sell me, also getting some DC headers for free.

Re: Looking for a parts list!

Yeah the DC Header won't do much at all for you, style points I guess, but since its free.

Anyways, check out this thread if you need an idea on where to start for a boost parts list, it was a thread I started a while back and got help from the boost gods on here.

Lots of useful info, and some not so useful, but give it a read.

This is also a very helpful turbo resource.

So, you wanna go turbo, huh?

For H22 build info and N/A info...

H22 build-up threads - master listing - Attack Forums

N/A performance library

And just in case you were curious about headers...

No more HEADER threads!!!

Re: Looking for a parts list!

I remember reading some guy's build thread, said he was bored and stroked to 3.0L but in order to do that, the sleeves had to be offset from each other so they were no longer in a perfect line.
