Prelude and Accord, the same??

I was wondering since i now got an 89 accord lxi.. Its almost the same thing as the 2nd or 3rd gen preludes.. Does anyone of those prelude parts fit on the 89 accord??

like if i want a front lip for the accord, can i search it under the prelude and it will directly fit on the accord.. Will a upper strut bar from the older preludes fit on the accord?? Stuff like that... If u kno anything plz post. From front bumper to back

Re: Prelude and Accord, the same??

Some engines and major engine components are shared between the two, particularly in 1st, 2d, and 4th gens. Fewer suspension parts. The chassis and body dimensions are differerent, so you can't swap the parts you're asking. It's a coincidence that 3d (or is it 4th?) gen Accord coupes look like 6/5th size 2d gen Preludes...they have no common parts!

Re: Prelude and Accord, the same??

The Accord was the Prelude's replacement, for the most part. They are very similar.

?? The Accord dates back to 1975, as a 3-door hatchback. The hatch disappeared in favor of a coupe in the third generation in 1989(?). Size and tuning-wise, Accords and Preludes were no more closely related than Civics and Preludes -- there's as much Civic DNA as Accord DNA in a 1st gen Prelude. Accord coupes and Preludes co-existed for over 10 years before Honda ended the latter's production. What really killed off the Prelude wasn't just the Accord coupe, but the combination of the Accord coupe and the Integra Type R -- there just wasn't a large enough market for a car that straddled the gap between those two at the price Honda asked for a Prelude.

The closest I've seen Honda come to replacing the Prelude was the Acura CL Type S...another car that Honda no longer makes.

I should have anticipated this lol. The Accord is considered the defacto replacement for the Prelude. That's what I meant to say. Which is a different meaning from saying that it was straight up its replacement.

I'm still not tracking, given the differences between the two, but no matter. No one who's asked if my Prelude is for sale (happens a couple times a month) expresses a desire for an Accord coupe as a substitute.

Now if you're saying that the Accord coupe is the only car remaining in Honda's product line to provide a very weak, insufficient substitute for the finest FWD GT ever made , I'm forced to agree. :)
