Strange Smoking Problem

Hey, this is probably been brought up before, but I was not able to find it when I skowered through the forums, but I have a problem that has left me dumfounded as well as some friends.

I was driving back to school during my lunch period and was going a little fast in order to not be late, and when I pulled into the parking lot and parked, steam or a light gray colored smoke was coming out of the hood, except it was coming more from underneath the car and out of the wheel wells. I had also noticed that it wasn't driving as well as it used too.

I am not exactly sure what was wrong with it, but after I let it sit for a couple of hours, I drove it home (taking it easy of course) and found no problems at all. It even drove perfectly. When I got home, I checked the engine and nothing seemed wrong.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys =D

Re: Strange Smoking Problem

Was it raining or were you braking hard?
My brakes have personally been so hot from braking (down a ton of curvy hills) that they started smoking. From what I recall it's not uncommon.
Also, if it was raining it could be that some water splashed up onto the header or something causing smoke.

Re: Strange Smoking Problem

No it wasnt raining but it had been a few days before, and a friend of mine was being a douchebag driving next to me and I was forced to hit brakes hard, so that might be it

Re: Strange Smoking Problem

Well hitting them hard once probably wouldn't do it. Mine were smoking after going up and down curvy hills going 50 MPH braking the whole way. Maybe you have an oil leak from your oil pan gasket that's dripping on your header. That's my problem at the moment.

Re: Strange Smoking Problem

Or an oil leak from your oil filter.

Or oil cooler o-ring right behind the filter.

Or a residue from a recent oil change.

But I'm going to say its your brakes.

Re: Strange Smoking Problem

it was your brakes, what are u saying that it wouldnt do it if u slammed on the brakes once? if ur doing 90mph and slam on the brakes u can gaurantee the brakes will overheat and smoke

Re: Strange Smoking Problem

Yeah probably brakes..

I was doing about 80-85mph on the highway one day, and I hit the top of a hill and had to step on em pretty hard because people donno how to drive in my state, and the brakes started smoking, and I warped my front left rotor, luckily I was able to get it turned for 8$ at parts store.
