Problems, need help

I bought my 92' honda prelude s off my friend because he didn't have the time to work on it and didn't know what was wrong, so i need help identifying a problem. When i start the car it will run rich and switch to lean and keep going back and forth and it causes the car to not run for to long, we think its an ecu problem but were not sure because we know it can be other problems also.

help would be greatly apreciated, thank you

How do you know it's running rich then lean and alternating?

The owner before me told me he was having problems with it, and it started making it run bad and stop working on him, it only drives a limited amount till it just breaks down cause of it, and you can smell when it switches over from rich to lean

change the o2 sensor they could be old and maybe fluctuating the mixture...but u may also have a leak before the sensors where oxygen maybe getting into the exhaust and making the computer think that the mixture is lean and trys to richen it and see its to rich well thats what i think but it could a a combination of alot of things.

Check engine light on?
Oil level good?
using right gas?
wiping with your left hand?

need informationz. post up info, tell us if all the fluids are new and full, what type of fluids you're using, when was the most recent upgrades/maintenance, etc done and what it was. Better too much info than not enough. should be at least a paragraph or two.

Help us help you.

Re: Problems, need help

nothing on my dash works, only my rpm and mph gauge, so if the check engine light was on i couldnt tell, and the oil is low i just checked it, and found out i have a leak, i also found a big hole on the bottom side of the hose leading from the fuel injectors to the engine wich is sucking in air so i am going to have to replace that.

Vacuum leak and possible IAC issues...

I think you mighta found your problem. Try replacing that stuff then get back to us. If you need to, take off the TB, get the bolt out (Easy-Out or whatever you gotta do) then replace the bolt.
