ud have to convert it to obd 2 to drop right in. or use and obd 1 ecu

4th gen motors are obd1

edit: if u use and obd 1 ecu you lose the immobilizer

Only the early ones -- Preludes switched over to OBD 2 in '95 or '96. But yes, it's always easier to get a wiring harness matched to the engine. :) The exhaust is slightly different, and some of the ancillaries -- most notably the power steering -- are different. None so different that they're not compatible across the model years, though.

thanks everyone. big help. i pulled the head off my engine today, wasn't as bad as i thought. some new exhaust valves and ill be back on the road. I'm still gonna pick up that gen. 4 i can get it for cheap.
