decisions, decisions, decisions

hello fellow pz people haha.

i was looking for some insight. right now i own a 4th gen with a h23a1 and it run FLAWLESSLY i mean smooth as ba**s but i want to do things to the engine. i need to decide if i want to just get a h22 head and build off that (was wondering from people who have done it before if its all that reliable). or if i should just go with a red top jdm h22. of course the second choice is a lil more expensive but i am saving for all this right now

all ideas welcome. please leave opinion

either that, or buy a regular 22 and call it a day...

jdm isn't worth the extra money your going to pay for it..you could just do the same to a regular 22 and more.

blue top 23 = more torque!

JDM all the way!

actually if you can get more torque with having vtec too, thats a good combo, do the h23+V head

Re: decisions, decisions, decisions

I had it set in my mind that I was just going to be swapping my H23 out for my H22, but after driving the H23 around for a while, I love the torque, so I'm thinking I may opt for the Bluetop when I need to do the swap. Best of both worlds, plus, a blue valve cover.

I'm a believer that if it's running perfectly, there's no need to mess with it yet. I have a '95 H22, I've had a stage 2 valvetrain setup and a hytech header sitting under my bed for about a year, but I'm happy without them in because of how well the car runs now. Once you start busting parts, go for the H22 head on your H23 block. That would be fun :)

Re: decisions, decisions, decisions

I think that's what I am gonna end up doing. Once I get the H22 outta my old car and get it on the stand, I'm just going to build it until my H23 takes a crap (which I don't see happening for a long while, it is healthyyyyyy). Who knows what I'll end up with lol.

Re: decisions, decisions, decisions

haha alright thanks everyone for you ideas. the main reason i want to do something to my engine is i am tired of being the slowest one and i have been tempted to have vtec and go faster ahah.

sounds like everyone seems to be for going the way of just an h22 head. and to me that sounds like a damn good idea because the h23 is great but it lacks a little in top end so vtec with make that better haha

and lastly have many people done this? i just wasnt sure if it was 100% reliable and if it was hard to find a vtec conversion kit for h series

Re: decisions, decisions, decisions

if ur gonna go h23 vtec i would build ur head outside the car. Thats how im buildin my h22. IM actually gonna try to find a block and build the whole motor outside just so i have a spare good running motor incase soethig bad were to happen. Best piece of advise i can give u would be to take ur time tho.

I agree as well. if i where you i would also build a motor out side of the car so your down time can be dropped to a few days instead of months.... "cough" "cough

and there is not "Kit" for it. Is just finding OE parts and modding you can stroke an H22 be the same thing and there are Stroker kits for that but there is no Vtec conversion kit. And if there is one someone let me know!!
