Icon8 Weird Problems :(

I drive a 5th gen Lude with just under 91k on the motor. Recently my car started running like absolute ****. It has absolutely no power through any gear and cannot make a smooth pull through vtec. In fact, it it so under powered that it cannot pull all the way through any gear. The motor really seams like it is struggling to make any power. There is also an absolutely terrible, eye burning smell coming from the exhaust(along with black smoke). The smell is so bad that whoever is behind the car while it is running cannot use the AC because of the smell. Overall the car is just super sluggish.

So far i have checked or replaced the following list of parts:

1. Fuel Pump
2. Fuel Filter
3. Both 02 Sensors
4. Knock Sensor
5. IAT Sensor
6. TPS Sensor
7. Timing Belt
8. Valve Adjustment
9. Spark Plugs
10. Spark Plug Wires
11. Ignition Coil
12. Distributor Cap and Rotor
13. Compression
14. FPR

I might have forgot about some stuff but I think that's it. In addition to all of those things, I also have a AEM SRI, Skunk2 IM, EGR Delete, Full 2.5in exhaust(no cat/resonator),and a Hytech replica header.

Re: Weird Problems :(

Black smoke is caused by excess fuel that has entered the cylinder area and cannot be burned completely. Another term for excess fuel is "running rich." Poor fuel mileage is also a common complaint when black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. Black smoke out the tailpipe is the least cause for alarm. Excess fuel will usually effect engine performance, reduce fuel economy, and produce a fuel odor.

(I grabbed this from google)

Re: Weird Problems :(

Just a guess, if you are running extreemly rich and and the car is generally stock, either an injector is not closing or your computer thinks that it needs to dump more fuel.

Check to see if your MAP sensor is faulty or the little channel that leads to the MAP could be dirty. While you have the throttle body off to clean the MAP channel, clean to idle so that it does not stick open

If that sensor is not correctly reading the vacuum that the engine is creating, the computer will send excess fuel because it thinks that the throttle is open.

Re: Weird Problems :(

dose it have a cel ??? if so whats the code ?? if no code is present your going to need to either have someone with a decent scanner ( modis genisis ) something of this nature see whats throwing it off . could be map could be tps could be alot of things . if you dont have money or access to a scanner you can check the voltages coming from the sensors to see if there reading right . get back to me and ill try an help you out . i can get you the voltage specs for all the sensors at idle if you dont have access to a scanner . although i would suggest taking to a shop and having them diagnose this to save you a lot of time and headache . the honda dealer should be able to diag it for an hrs labor ...... this is what i would suggest .

Re: Weird Problems :(

i have checked all of the list of sensors and parts in my first post to make sure they are working properly.

it has a cel, but it is because of the egr valve delete

Re: Weird Problems :(

I'm not 100% but maybe the EGR delete could be causing issues, if you didn't do it properly.

Re: Weird Problems :(

I wish the egr delete was causing the problem, but the only reason i took it off is because it went bad after this problem occurred.

havik, i too have noticed a terrible smell sometimes accompanied by a gray/white smoke when i stop at a light with the lude.

Re: Weird Problems :(

Well for the problem I have I think its either that there coolant leak I mentioned in the other post, or a vacuum leak. I was also thinking it could be the EGR, but hell if I know. I gotta do some checking on mitchell and see if there is any regular maintenance work I forgot to do, like replace the evap canister or something....

As for your original issue, not really sure.
