Stereo auto off...

ok I've searched this forum and wasn't able to find an answer to this...

I just installed a new stereo in to my '97 prelude (my first time ever doig this btw) Everything went cool I wired everything correctly and everything works.

However, there's one thing that I don't like: while the car is on and I open my driver door, my stereo turns off. while the car is still on and I close said door, the stereo turns back on and resumes music from where ever it left off.

So, is there a way to stop this from happening?

Stereo model: Sony CDX-GT340

PS: if this was in fact covered in an older thread, please send me the thread... I probly overlooked it and will continue to search once I send this out.

Thanks every1

Re: Stereo auto off...

That's an interesting point. I've noticed this in some cars after the engine has been switched off and key removed (head unit stays on until door opened) but I have no idea how yours could be behaving like this without the engine being switched off.

Or is it something you can set within the deck itself?

thats quite weird, seeing as my radio does not do that. it could just be with your deck though.

Re: Stereo auto off...

it sounds like someone may have added this "feature" to the car and wired it backwards. look under the dash for a jumble of wires/relays/black box.

now, there is one other possibility, but it will take me a minute (I'm at work) to find the schematics.

when you say you wired it, did you just add a harness adaptor?
Did you cut out the harness' and hard wire everything?

With that being said, the Sony does not have a mute or dimming circuit.

I would assume that something is cross wired (obviously) that is causing a loss of B+ voltage to the yellow power lead on your stereo. (connected to the Blue/White wire on your car's harness) You honestly need to trace back the wire starting at the apparant source of the issue and find where an accessory was installed and/or possibly even an alarm system. We/I don't have the opportunity to see your car personally so it is a toss up as to what you have installed and what could be causing this.
