5th Gen Type S swap questions

Hello all great forum, hope you can help

I got a 5th gen lude base 5MT for dirt cheap with a great body but 140k on the clock. Transmission is ok, The motor is rough and instead of trying to build it back I just figured I would swap it with something with low miles.

I am relativity green when it comes to preludes. SO my questions are

1. Can I swap in a type S H22 without modifying the harness
2. Do I need a new ECU as well? I am under the assumption that the motors are idetical in electronics and the type S just has more agressive cams and pistons etc.
3. Would it be stupid to buy the type S without buying the type S tans with LSD?
We are talking around 1500 dollars difference or so, should I buy the normal H22a and try to milk out the 20hp?

Where is the best place to order a JDM engine? Obviously ebay and google search but is their some sort of hidden gem?

Thanks in advance....

Re: 5th Gen Type S swap questions

First off welcome to the lude word!!
Second im going to be nice and help you but use the SEARCH button because there have been 3 of these exact posts in the last week.

1. No, type s harness sits differently
2. I believe so,
3. Depends on your preference.

20Hp is not to much for the extra 3k you pay for the engine, If you want best bang for the buck buy a h22a and build it with that extra money. The differences in type s and the regular h22a is basically a stage 1 upgrade

Ive heard good things about hmotorsonline.com/ Again search and youll see what people have to say.

Type S engine needs an ATTS transmission. You'd be better off getting an SiR or Euro R motor and using your transmission, or getting the LSD transmission

Re: 5th Gen Type S swap questions

Sorry about not using the search, I was uber tired and I had overlooked it.

So I guess I will just get a normal h22a and forget about the type S.

My last question is will the JDM h22a fit without modifying the harness? I have heard because the car is RHD there is a part of the harness that needs to be modified.

I am just trying to make sure that everything will play nicely. I think I will have to swap over my dizzy, oil pump and maybe intake manifold??

Thanks!!!

I just got my h22a swap done today actually :)

Basically you need to swap over the intake with the wire harness. There is a extra sensor that can be swapped onto the h22a vtec.
now this is ether or. You can chose to swap over the oil pump, or get a OBD1 distributer and rewire it to work with the new engine. The JDM oil pump doesn't have the TDC and CYP sensors, but you can get a OBD1 distributer that does. Its 8 wires that need to be redone and there are instructions on how to match them up around here.
If your going to do a new timing belt then you could swap over the old oil pump or use another one. But depending on the miles you might want to buy a new one or keep the JDM one. EDIT: like for mine, the h22a4 the engine blew and i didnt wanna risk swapping over the old pump so i got a OBD1 distributer for 45$

Other then that i cant really think of anything els right now. Its not that hard as long as your organized.
