putting a new motor on the lude

I have a cracked cylinder wall on my h22 in my lude right now and instead of boring it and sleeving it I have decided to just get a new moters and swap it with my old one. I was thinking bout doing it myself with a few freinds. Iv never swaped a motor before, can anyone give me any tips?

Re: putting a new motor on the lude

Are you going to get a JDM motor?

Yeah, have a few breaker bars, I broke 3 breakerbars, 5 ratchets, and a torque wrench getting the spindle nut off. And that is with a 3 foot pussy bar. Other than removing the axles, swaps are easy as fawkk Have fun dude! I love swaps!!!

Re: putting a new motor on the lude

Use a compressor and a impact. Get as many boxes as you can and put every bolt in a labeled box! If this is your first swap do something to remember where and how everything goes. Also do it as soon as possible.... the longer you take the more you forget

Re: putting a new motor on the lude

Depends on how you want to do it. We wanted to take the transmission with the engine. Which I suggest doing everytime you pull the engine because then you can clean the tranny and then respray it with eastwood's aluma-blast. Make that **** look brand new, son

Re: putting a new motor on the lude

Do USDMs have a knock sensor? UK spec ludes dont. I had to put in a wire and a JDM ECU to run tthe new engine, if you get stuck let me know and I will show you how to wire a knock sensor in.

It is easier to take out the gear box with the engine, my advice would be to undo everything label it all up, get some clamps for all the fluid pipes, when you have got the engine ready to lift out, you will need to have it on an anlge, gear box side lower than cam belt side or you wont get it out.

Just be carefull with the gear linkages, make sure you tuck them away or you will damage them like I did and its another job on your list. Also to speed things up, label the plugs on you loom, which goes where, there are a few plugs that aare the same and could go on wrong component.

Hope you understand my mumbling, hard to put into words, I just learn as I go. I have done 3 swaps in total now, when you know how its done once its easy after. I would reccomend getting some input shaft seals too, because I found they leak once you have had the shaft out. These stop oil coming out of the gear box where the shafts go in. Just paid 43 for 2 sets from our Honda Stealers.

Good luck. Hope some of this has helped.

6' steel pipe from home depot, 1" diameter. fits right over a 1/2" breaker bar and you will take ANY bolt off with ease.

USDM motors have knock sensors, JDM do not.

Re: putting a new motor on the lude

Sorry JDM DO have knock sensors, I know because I fitted JDM to my UK spec lude. So the H22 JDM do for sure, not sure about F22 or other engines though.
