P0401 code Help!

So I have a 1998 prelude with 160k miles on it.

Took it to a local mechanic for the recommended port cleaning. Egr valve itself tested ok.

Still throwing off the code.

Now he is saying to take off the intake manifold and clean/replace it.

Does this make sense? Can anyone give me suggestions as to what is going on?
If not I have no choice but to go to Hoda and have them diagnose/troubleshoot it for me (I really don't want to do that). Nor do I want to replace/clean the IM which he says is $700-$800.

I need major help here.

Re: P0401 code Help!

I've had the same problem for a while actually, and i also throw a P1491 code too which also has to do with the egr. My egr valve also tested to be fine when we tested it. Do you know if you have an egr block-off installed? It's possible that the previous owner had an egr blockoff plate and that's the reason that the CEL is turning on (code P0401).

Re: P0401 code Help!

Most people who throw the p0140 code clean the egr port plugs. Check the diy section, there is a tutorial that shows the process. I myself had to have that done about 4 months ago, fixed the issue and havent had it since. Just cleaning the IM wont help, I tried that. The port plugs need to be taken out, cleaned inside the ports and replace the plugs. its honestly not all that big of a job. IIRC Honda charges 2 hrs labor.
