Fuel Problem???

Hi All,

I am about to pull my hair out in frustration trying to check all things fuel related on my 1993 Honda Prelude Coupe.

Motor starts and idles perfectly - put your foot on the gas and it stalls.

When you first turn the ignition on there is no sound from the fuel pump. There is a click from some relay under the dash but I have no idea what or where it is.

Pulled the dash off looking for anything that looked like a fuse and was not able to find one for the fuel pump. Does anyone know where the fuse and relay for the fuel pump is?

Pulled the cover plate off the fuel pump in the trunk and put a multi meter on it with the ignition turned on - No voltage.

I am pretty sure no power is getting to the fuel pump but I do not know where to look.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Paul

Re: Fuel Problem???

that clicking from under the dash is the main relay, which sends current to the fuel pump to pressurize it. if it's clicking, it's working.

if there is NO voltage at the fuel pump with the ignition turned ON, that means the fuel pump is working properly. but when you turn the key to II, you SHOULD hear the fuel pump priming, but you don't, so that has me confused

hmmmm, so maybe it IS the main relay that's faulty....

download this manual, go to page 11-125 (around there), and see if you can diagnose it...

Re: Fuel Problem???

Thanks for responding. This is the first time I have worked on a Prelude and I don't have a money tree out the back that will let me take the car to a mechanic.

Update - Pulled the electrical connectors from the fuel tank and re-connected them - Now I hear the pump working but the same problem still happens. When I put my foot on the gas the engine stalls.

Another problem was identified - The pump kept working even after the ignition was turned off - Sometimes on and off, sometimes constant.

Where is the sensor that tells when the line is primed and pressurised? Is it before or after the fuel filter. Could the sensor be defective or could the filter need replacing?

I appreciate the help.

Regards
Paul

Re: Fuel Problem???

i don't think its fuel. you now have power to the pump. you could have just opened the 17mm nut that locks the fuel line down to the fuel rail...have someone inside the car turn the car to 11 ignition on and see if fuel pisses out.

i think its your map sensor. soon as you press on the pedal...it lets air in to the intake .... therefore the sensor that tries to read that, is probably faulty.
