Icon5 Loud metallic rattling at idle/during deceleration, any ideas???

Hey guys,

So this sound is awful, I would describe it like a few big paper clips inside a vibrating soda can (yeah it took me a while to come up with that...) It happens particularly after a cold start and it tends to gradually go away as the car heats up, but it might take 20-30 minutes to subside, and even then it doesn't go away completely, but its a lot less audible.

At idle it sounds the worst, but I think this is just because I'm sitting still...if I rev the engine it goes away, but as soon as the RPMs settle it starts up again. Also, no matter what gear I'm in, if I decelerate it starts immediately (really fast, like a rattlesnake) and slows with the RPMs of the car. As soon as I accelerate again it goes away.

Does anyone have any ideas what it could be and if so, how I could fix it? I'm a newb...hi so explain it like I don't know sh*t...thanks!

Hmm, the cat...that would make sense since it is worst when the car is cold, it definitely has that hollow rattle that exhaust usually makes. What was the problem with yours Dave?

Also, what kind if headlights/fogs are on your car in your sig? They look sick

i have the same issue and found it to be the header to downpipe bolts not being torqued down all the way. most likely it's hardware in your exhaust system so find a solid day to crawl under the car and tighten all the bolts holding your exhaust tubing together. hope you figure it out soon because i know how obnoxious an exhaust rattle can be...
