key works in the wrong car lol

i've heard plenty of people say oh yeah my civic key opened my buddies civic. idk never really believed it till today, i walked out and accidentally tried to use my 92 lude key to open my 94 and bam. it opened. the key turned smoothly but wouldnt turn back. i had to wiggle it and press on the inner lock button to finally get the key out. but damn. i guess its true. just thought id share.

Re: key works in the wrong car lol

it's a known problem on the 4th gens, and a recall was put out years ago. all i needed to do was put my wife's accord keys into the passenger side, slightly turn, and the door would unlock. check the diy section for the fix.

I saw that DIY awhile ago and was quite amazed that it was even possible. Definitely something that needs to be fixed the second you buy em'.

I used to steal my sisters geo storm back in the day.
You could use a random key, a penny, even a piece of cardboard.

Good times.

Re: key works in the wrong car lol

I didn't notice at first when I was using the key to my 95' integra to open and start the lude <--4g) cause it was so effortless..only noticed when I tried takeing the key out of the ignition, like it was said above it took a little effort to get it out w/out breaking anything deff. want to fix that though. I tried the vice versa but my lude key wouldn't work in my integra

Re: key works in the wrong car lol

I heard of this kind of stuff happening with quite a few cars of all kinds of different makes and models I THINK what it is besides the very possible wearing out is that there is no cheap way for the manufactors to make a custom lock set (door locks & ignition lock) for every individual car they make so they have x number of different lock sets then cycle them again so chances are that your key may work in say one in ten or however many lock sets they have but chances are low that people will find this out cause how many people will go around trying their key in another similar car...sticky keys are not the same though just similar or worn

My passenger door does this too! I tried to find the 4G DIY, but I couldn't find it for the life of me

Could someone possibly link?

Re: key works in the wrong car lol

I had the recall fix done on my '98 and now the ignition switch is sloppy as hell.

Here's a strange one for you. If I park my Prelude right next to my'06 RSX TypeS, the RSX will sometimes flash the lights and sound the horn when I start the Prelude. But not vise-verse. Both have the chip in the key.

I wonder what surprises are to be found in this technology.

Re: key works in the wrong car lol

crazy I'm pretty sure thats because your alarm is set on a high sensitivity setting and the vibration of you starting your lude is setting the other alarm off..I used to piss my boss off delivering in an old beater w/ a bad exhaust and I would start my car next to his and he would have to come outside to turn his alarm off all the time lol I at least thought it was funny..make him do extra work
