Icon5 sensor mystery!!!!

hello guys..i need help with a problem. i ve been trying to get my car to pass emissions but some sensors never get ready to be tested. i have a 97 prelude and my car has no engine light on and no codes but the EGR, EVAP, O2 SENSOR, AND CATALYST sensor never get ready to be tested...all mechanics tell me is to drive the car till they get ready but i ve already driven it for over 3000 miles and still nothing...therefore something has to be wrong but i cant figure out what it is to fix it..any help appreciate it..thank in advance.

Re: sensor mystery!!!!

hey dude what type ecu your using ,and make sure that when you put the key at the point when it lights up the dash make sure it blinks the check engine light on and then of this will tell you the ecu is operating correctly ,the monitor work at different speed and heat cycles that's why they told you to drive it to set the conditions ,and 3000 miles should have done it ,what state are you from , in new york the amount of monitors allowed to pass is no more the two out of 7 so you have a little problem ,any way ,try to see if you can test your ecu in some else car or vise versa that should give a chance to figure out if its ecu related .Let me know what you decided okay

Re: sensor mystery!!!!

You can't just "get a sensor ready," either it works or it doesn't. It won't start working after say, you drive it for a week. -.-

Re: sensor mystery!!!!

My first post was actually rather large, but my gay ass computer deleted it, which is why I have the shortened one up there.

Anyway its all useless info unless we understand what you mean, and I'm not sure I do. Can you elaborate and provide more detail please?

Re: sensor mystery!!!!

what i mean is that when u go for emissions and they hook it up to the computer..there are 7 sensors that are supposed to collect info to make sure everything is working...but in mine...4 of those are never getting infoso they are never ready to be tested when they hook it up to the emissions machine. this usually happens when u disconnect the battery or lose power so you have to drive it in order to get it ready again but mines never do.and they dont throw a code so i dk if they r good or bad.

Re: sensor mystery!!!!

So did you take off the battery and the sensors never come back online? Or were they never working in the first place?

What I'm trying to get at is did you do something then they stopped working or have they always been like that?

And by "sensors not ready" are you saying that they aren't working or are you saying they are working but haven't been working long enough to collect the necessary data to make them eligible for testing?

In NJ we don't have this kind of testing, or so I believe, so I'm not really familiar with the test. It may require the sensors be operational for X amount of time so they can compile enough data that they can see how the car has been running over X amount of time...

they have it in nj..is just emissions to get your inspection..i didnt do anything to make them stop working and i am quessing they are working because they dont throw a code and if they were bad, they would. and by not being ready i mean that they never collect enough data to pass the test
