another, need help with the old swap, thread...

So ive been reading up on h22a4 to h22 swaps.... they all say change ur oil pan over to the h22 engine, along with a h23 distributer.. but then it says its a OBD1 to OBD2 or vice versa

For a OBD2 H22a4 to OBD2 h22 do i still have to change over the oil pan and distributer? My dad is helping me do the swap and he is not completely convinced on the need to do this.

Im sorry for being a noob and making another swap thread . im at the point where if this needs to be done it needs to be now.

thanks for ur help guys

Re: another, need help with the old swap, thread...

Ok, well I can't answer all your questions, since I never actually did the swap I was going to do. And not all of my questions were answered succinctly. However, I do know a thing or two.

First off, is your car an SH or a base model? If its a base, you don't need to worry about swapping your trans. If its an SH like mine, then you gotta swap the trans for a base, and the trans mounts and CV axles, as well as one or two other things need to be changed as well.

Also, you shouldn't need to convert to OBD1. Only if you want to. If you wanna keep OBD2, you'll need to swap some things from the old engine to the new engine. Engine wiring harness, I believe the oil pan, dizzy and possibly crankcase sensor, and maybe some other stuff.

Like I said, I'm not an expert on this. And I'm probably wrong on a couple counts, but there ARE things that need to be swapped from the old engine to the new engine, otherwise the next thread you make is gonna be "just did engine swap and car won't start."

Re: another, need help with the old swap, thread...

The car is a 1998 base model... I am keeping the same trany. The new engine is a (97?) H22A.

I will be swapping over the old intake and exhaust manifold.

I also know that i need a few new parts such a bunch of new seals and gaskets, timing belt, pulley, ball joints, front mount.
I need a new clutch, what do u guys recommend? Also should i have the flywheel resurfaced or get a new one?

Re: another, need help with the old swap, thread...

Well it's a base, so your tranny will work just fine.

If you wanna swap the intake and exhaust manifolds, thats up to you, but not necessary. They may not even work on the new engine. Don't know for sure.

New clutch? Go OEM. Unless you're running some balls out power and like making your left leg tired, you don't need anything more advanced than an OEM clutch. As for the flywheel, don't resurface it. You really don't want to make an 18 pound steel saw turning at a couple thousand rpm any weaker. I suggest a 8lb aluminum flywheel from Fidanza. They're very popular and highly recommended.

Re: another, need help with the old swap, thread...

Also the crank shaft sensor, i believe it is, the one by the oil pan on the bottom, il put up a pic in a sec. The H22a4 has it and the H22A does not have it. How do i switch that over? it seems to be going in to the engine block not the oil pan... Thats the Crank Shaft Sensor right?

EDIT:
H22a4

H22A

To be honest I don't know about the sensor, never actually did the swap, and my buddy had all the swap info in his head.

Re: another, need help with the old swap, thread...

theres a write up on how to wire the h23 dizzy so you dont need the crank sensor i just did the same swap and you would have to switch the whole oil pump over to your new motor and thats a lot of work

was it a OBDII to OBDII? so if i switch the oil pump then i dont need a h23 distributer?
I have the time to do the pain in the ass swaps but not that much extra $$ so i rather do the oil pump if i dont need to buy the h23 distributer

are u also talking about this thread?
OBD1 <-> OBD2 (motor/distributor swapping)

Re: another, need help with the old swap, thread...

ok so let me make sure i got this right
Even if im keeping my obd2 i still have to do the distributer swap in order to by pass the crank shaft sensor? Unless i swap over a oil pump to the new h22a? and this needs to be a h22a4 oil pump?
