Re: help 96 prelude b18 swap

I'm confused and a little tired, and feel free to point out if this is a stupid question..but uhh..Is this a question that essentially states something like;

"I am planning on putting a motor in my Prelude that has less displacement and a lower HP rating than either of the stock 4th-generation Prelude motors, literally no easy way to install and hook up without some serious modification, effort, time and frustration, but it's free so I wanna make it work, how do I do it?"

Because if that's the real question, I would say it will be cheaper to find a Del-Slo or a Civic to put it in than it will be to put it in your Prelude and therefore to answer your question semi-verbatim, don't be nervous, just don't do it.

But as I'd stated before, I could be WAY off in that this may be something of a desirable swap and I may have been completely outta the loop of cool **** to do to a Prelude for awhile, so if I'm wrong, I apologize and good luck!

Re: help 96 prelude b18 swap

omg.... if you follow through with this please post pictures i have to see this haha!!!!

considering its never been done before because its a complete waste of a b18 because your actually loosing horse power, for this kind of work you'd be spending more then you have too when you can just buy a h22 swap for less.

Re: help 96 prelude b18 swap

ya, its not worth it whatsoever. people take b18's outta hatches and stuff cause theyre underpowered as it is. be even slower trying to push alogn a 2700 lb prelude. theres a reason people with cars as b18's stock put in h engines

Why degrade a Prelude. Thats like taking out a LS2 out of a Corvette and putting in an LT1 from a Camaro.

Ok trade the b18 for an H series or at least an F22b. Don't even think about dropping that in your lude. Please.

Re: help 96 prelude b18 swap

If it was a b18c1 or c5 I could KINDA see a point to it. But im pretty sure hes talkin about a b1. Bro sell the ls motor and try to buy a h22. There will be wayyy to much to work thru just to get that motor in the bay rite and running perfectly

Re: help 96 prelude b18 swap

Not that this is helping this guy any, but what about a k20? I am told they are good for civics, if built ocrrectly could it be good for a lude? or still ot enough hp for lude to make it useful?

Re: help 96 prelude b18 swap

You probably do not even realize what kind of effort this will take to do. Also how impractical it is. You have to have custom mounts, custom axles, and completely redo your wiring. Good luck...

If you actually had the competence to do this swap then this is the last place you would need to go to ask questions.

HP wise certain K20s have more power than H22s. I just think it might be rather impractical but at the same time I was wondering that myself yesterday. I know a few K20s are rated at 240 while the H22a4 is 190+- not 100% on that one so power wise i don't see the issue

Hasport makes mounts for a k24 into our ludes. If I had the cash I would be all over that shizz.

Re: help 96 prelude b18 swap

yes....PLEASE keep your engine. the b18 would definitely be a downgrade. Get the H....thats why the 5th gens(sticks at least) are the quickest. Think about it....the b18 is out of an Integra....The Prelude, might I venture to say in both auto and stick form, is better in every way, shape and form than an integra.
