When does Vtec kick in on an H23 vtec.

I was just wondering when vtec kicks in on a real H23 vtec not a Self made but factory jdm H23 vtec out of the euro wagon.. I haven't noticed before but i know it's a lower, and whenever i get on it in my prelude i haven't had the chance to look at it.. but if someone knows then i can ride it a little better,or atleast i assume.. Sorry for sounding like a noob, and thanks to all who help..

Re: When does Vtec kick in on an H23 vtec.

vtec should kick in 5800rpm and redline at 6800 <-- downside.

^ why didnt you go with a jdm h22?

a 5sp swap on that h23v would pull harder then an h22 yes but your redline is gonna kill you. unless you want to be different and not racing lol.

Pshh, stop making the h23a vtec sound so bad lol. It makes more TQ at a lower RPM. Great for cruising around town. They respond very well to mods too. A typical H23A setup will make about 10whp/10wtq more than an H22A.

Wouldn't that mean it's the EDM H23 VTEC then? Anyway it shouldn't be much different than an H22. Just go for a ride and listen to when the engine sound changes

Re: When does Vtec kick in on an H23 vtec.

i did alot of research on this h23v blue top. only to come find out the best route to take was simply jdm h22

id like to do this swap in like a 3rd gen or something someday. but will see what happens.

like what was said before listen to the engine

Re: When does Vtec kick in on an H23 vtec.

Thanks for everyone's help.. Yeah i like the H23 vtec cause i got a almost new one with only 30K miles and all the h22's i found had double or almost the mile's.. And i'm not just raceing it, it's my everyday driver. also i never said it's soo bad , but it's deff a great motor.. I have a great hook on motors in georgia and if i ever look down at it,a h22 i could get one down the road. I thought it was around 5000 something but whenever i run it i never look at it, and since i have a h22 tranny it's geared diff and let's me get more out of it, but i just want to make sure it's all still working like it should..well when i hear the engine change it's at about 3500 and i know theirs no way thats vtec . But i know it's kicking in when i run her ..( just wondering when i is suposed to kick in...)

Re: When does Vtec kick in on an H23 vtec.

facing the engine from the front of the car look in front of the right side of the Intake manifold near the fuel rail. there is a diaphragm that has a vacuum line running to it. pull the line and go down the road a couple times red lining it slowly. by disconnecting that your making your butterfly valves stay open and should allow you to hear the Vtec and not the ports opening.

Re: When does Vtec kick in on an H23 vtec.

Thanks man.. I just need to get a radar detector and get out on the highway and get on it a little more.. I think i got it all tuned just right, but still wonder if my H22 vtec tranny will let my h23 vtec blow up. i know the h22 has a higher redline and with that i was always thinking that if i really got on it it would hurt or even blow the motor.. Thanks for all your help everyone.....

Re: When does Vtec kick in on an H23 vtec.

Thanks for all the post's... I really like the h23 vtec its a great motor and has only 30k on it so i had to get it.. Also i have been running it with alot of siff cars and Have beat alot.. last night ran against two 5th gens 5 speed preludes, all motor and won by a car. they both had h22's also i spanked a acura tl with the 3.2s, not the new one but the ones that had the long kinda box body, it was door to door untill v tec kicked in and i was gone , by three cars.. and just tonight i smoked a Honda accord v6, the long ones with the round back end.. so all i know is that it is a pretty quick motor, Im a happy man...

Attaway Blue!.....screw those 5spds haha. Love it. And what kind of person was racing you in a TL?? Thats more of a luxury sedan, although it does have a darn good bit of power.
