Blown Headlight!!!!!

Ok family, I have a problem. I went to go take a night drive and the most crappy thing happened; My driver side headlight blew. Now the reason this is so crappy is because I was taking this drive to relieve stress... Considering my lights are 15 years old, I just decided to replace the whole light, not just the bulb. I was looking into a few, and I came upon these:

Amazon.com: 92-96 HONDA PRELUDE HEADLIGHTS (1-PIECE) - EURO BLACK STYLE, W/ PROJECTOR (DEPO-US)…

Amazon.com: 92-96 HONDA PRELUDE HEADLIGHTS (1-PIECE) - EURO CHROME STYLE, W/ PROJECTOR (DEPO-US) PAIR 93 94 95: Automotive

I don't do much Ebay shopping, but I will for the right deal. My biggest concern is the glass, or lack thereof. My favorite thing about my lights is the the fact that they are glass. I hate plastic lamps. Could anyone tell me if these are plastic or glass? Also, I have never dealt with projector lights before, is there anything extra I will have to do besides mount them and plug them in? I have no idea how to even remove my current lights. For what I'd be paying, I need these to come with everything (harness, bulbs, everything). Any help is appreciated guys and gals!!!

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

Those aren't a bad deal. Not my cup of tea, but not bad. As far as installing HID's, it's pretty simple. Unplug the harness from your old bulbs and remove them, then you plug the OEM harness into the HID ballast, and plug your HID bulb into the ballast. It's real straightforward. And HID kits aren't that pricey. You can get them on EBay for a reasonable price (Xentec seems to be the ones everyone gets). I have had them for ~2 years and I have no complaints.

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

Ok that's good. Sounds manageable. So under those lights it says "Simple Plug-&-Play Installation," does this mean it comes with housings, bulbs, and ballasts? I'm still concerned they will be plastic! I have heard of Depo though, so that's good. How do I remove my lights? Finally, which do you prefer, black or chrome?

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

Depo's are good. Lots of people have them, especially the 5g guys. Those are ONLY the headlight housings. You would have to buy an HID kit separately (~$70 on E-Bay when I bought mine, they're probably cheaper now). To remove your headlight housings, you'll have to remove your bumper. It's a pain the first time, but you might as well learn to do it. I know Neck did a write-up for removing the bumper, search around for it and you can find it.

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

Damn, that's what I was afraid of. Would JDM lights be cheaper? I figured you would have to remove the front bumper, but mine is aftermarket...I don't know how to remove it

It seems like a few of the bolts are under the lights, which means I would have to remove the lights to remove the damn bumper! This is becoming more and more complicated

I really do appreciate the help though man.

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

probably not. JDM fogs go for like $65, and those are just fogs. So I would assume headlights would be more, then of course the fogs in question are yellow, which may make them more expensive...

Well I'm thinking about getting the Depo Prejector lights in the OP and installing a HID kit. I like them, but the whole removal thing is going to be a PITA!

Well if everything was stock I wouldn't be concerned. I have a bodykit (not my doing), and it seems as though 6 bolts are directly under my headlight housings. As in I cannot reach them unless I remove the headlights. Problem is I have to remove the bumper to remove the headlights! Damn rice wanna-bes going and ruining my car. I guess I will just have to figure i all out before I buy anything. So black or chrome?

Also, this is the kit I was looking at:

Amazon.com: JLM HID Conversion Kit 9006 6000K: Automotive

Any thoughts?

Yeah I could forsee a problem with that. Bodykits may look sick but they can make things a pain in the ass. And I can't say black or chrome cuz my internet is being so slow I cant load pics...

Well I guess if they put the damn thing together then I can take it apart! I'm hoping it won't be too big of a deal. Either way, it will be done! It may not be to everyone's liking, but I like projector lights.

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

Well if you like it, that's really all that matters.

However if you said you liked cars with dildos superglued to the rims and a two foot shark fin strapped to your roof, then I would say what you like doesn't matter much

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

I've got the black DEPO housing, very good. I got mine off of eBay for about the same price. I too have a body kit, but managed to get mine done in about 20 minutes. I have an HID kit installed in the housings and I have not seen any damage from heat. These headlight housings use a different size bulb! I believe it's H7! Hope you didn't order another size. The cut off line is good and if your car is NOT lowered they may already be aimed on the dot.

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

DDM tuning makes a nice HID kit for our headlights. lowbeams. for about 40-60 depending on the wattage and color you want.

My buddy got jdm yellow fogs for $65, but no, they are not the round ones. They're the rectangular ones. My car came with the little round ones, but they aren't yellow, they don't work, and one of the lenses is cracked. I plan on fixing em soon.

I didn't order anything just yet. Are the lenses plastic or glass on yours? So I need an H7 HID kit then?

jesus fuk. we've spent a long time creating those resource threads to hopefully make all of our lives easier, and no even fuking utilizes them. i give up.
I know how to remove the stock bumper...Mine ISN'T stock, it has a bodykit that was poorly installed. In other terms, it's freakin' rigged man! I have used the resource thread many times so chill. You know I wouldn't ask a question with thorough research first!

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

even tho it isn't stock, it's still mounted up the same way as the stock one should be. it's not like the mounting system was completely redesigned with different bolt/screw locations or mounting brackets.

i have faith that you'll be able to take it off following that thread man
it's time to stop worrying, and just get your hands dirty. you'll learn a thousand times more from first-hand experience than simply reading what we're telling you

those are holding the plastic bumper COVER to the metal bumper SUPPORT, which you also need to remove at the same time. i mentioned how to take them both off in the link that i posted in one of my posts

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

I would get my hands dirty all the time, but I lack any real tools.. :/ I have to go to a buddies house or go to the firehouse to use tools. It blows.

Well I tried and failed. I have no way of getting the car up. The bolts are all stripped and I can't get the two bolts off from the fender, fml.

Re: Blown Headlight!!!!!

Might i suggest purchasing a set? Lol. You cant install your JDM Goodies without some Decent tools. For ~$200 you can get a good start on sockets and wrenches as well as other miscellaneous tools needed for installing parts. But with every mechanical project there is always special tools that you will want to purchase, so the next time you have to do it, you already have the tool for the job right there. :) lol
