Retrofit General Questions

What Are They?

How Do They Work?

Why Are They So Expensive?

What Options Do You Have With Them As Far As Types Go?

Does The Vehicle Have To Be Modified In Any Way?

``Well, that's a really broad-ass question!!``

Retrofitting is simply putting new technology, new stuff onto older cars.

Expensive? because it's usually all custom work.

types? -anything.

Yes. See answer 2.

what you have in mind Doc. ?

By types I meant I saw one that said TSX and then some other kind.

by modification of the vehicle I meant, If I sent out my headlights to get retrofitted, what modifications to my vehicle will have to be done or is it just plug and play?

there are absolutly NO modifications that need to be done to the car. its a plug and play harness. there are many different types. from TSX to BMW to s2000. if you want it it can be done. its all in a matter of what you like and what can fit. some housings cant fit. i hear the s2000 is hard to fit. all it really is, is just putting a HID housing in a halogen housing. there are writeups on pp.com to give you an idea of how its done, if you wanted to do it yourself. they arnt really that expensive. i mean it depends mostly on what housing you want.. TSX housings are expensive. the BMW ones (e46 or 56 i believe) arnt as expensive as the TSX.

and how they work is just as simple as using a curved piece of glass to bend light... cept the bulb is much brighter, uses less energy and inside the housing is a (i dont know how to describe it very well) piece of metal that is used to ensure the light emitted by bulb only goes through a certain part of the glass so that it bends down, towards the road and not into peoples eyes.. that metal piece is what also creates whats called the cutoff in other words its a beam of light. not reflected light like in a halogen housing. the advantages are they concentrate more light where its needed, down on the road and whats in front of you. whereas a halogen just spreads light everywhere. and generally projectors use a much whiter light in order to mimic the suns light. because its what we, as humans are used to in our daily lives. and from my experience, it seriously feels like i got a ****in sun in my headlights they are that damn bright.

and i thought i should add, there are "other types" which can be classified as halogen projectors. which are mostly sold on ebay. they suck. its the same principle as the the HID projectors except it uses a halogen bulb...

and i can go even further into talking about bi-xenon. thats where the high beam and low beam are combined into one housing... i have the regular xenon, so my high beam is still the original stock halogen bulb... and seriously, with my brights on i can still see the cutoff from the projectors from over a hundred feet away.

Ahh okay. I saw a video online a coupld weeks ago about improper HID projection and it can f*** up other people while driving. I was just a little skeptical on how it worked.

So every retrofit job is done custom meaning each job is going to be done slightly, if any, different?

Those eBay lights are actually Halogen Projectors, not HID Projectors correct?

as long as you align them properly you wont blind anyone.. when i first got mine i had mine pointed pretty high and i got flashed alot. you just gotta keep them down.. im not sure exactly how a retrofit is done. but since it is custom im sure there are some slight differences between every projector. but its so minor you cant tell. i was looking at mine and on mine one looks like it points to the side ever so slightly.. hardly noticeable even looking right at it. and yes the ebay ones are halogen projectors.
