using an ostrich 2.0 emulator and datalogger.. broken down and explained

I just wrote this for a different thread, but decided to post here too. it's not easy putting all this into understandable (lamens) terms
just to let everybody know,, it took 1 1/2 hrs. to put the following, into words

using emulator & datalogger with chipped ecu.. you are only limited by what the editing software is capable of changing.....

the emulator is no add on, the ecu thinks it is business as usual.., since the emulator mimics the hardware that the ecu is built with .., so when you make changes to your map, you're changing the original ecu firmware....basically

instead of adding a seperate, or "in-line" hardware device to pre-existing ecu,..., which allows you to change certain parameters of the fuel maps etc..., but it does this by telling the ecu that everything is running at stock perameters.... but in reality, your engine is running on modified settings from the device, while the device is lying to your ecu..., giving it false information...

compare ecu chipping and tuning to hacking or "modding" a cell phone.
-you need 3 things..., first you hack or (mod) the phone, so you can edit all parameters possible.
-then you need software specially made for the phone to apply these changes to firmware (example: nokia data suite)
and finally a connection to phone so the software can link to it...(example: phone usb cable)

same for ecu's....
instead of (mod), ecu's get (chipped)
for me (Crome Pro) is the software I use to edit firmware, or (maps)
and connection is through usb cable that plugs into my (Ostrich 2.0) while at the same time plugged into ecu by ribbon cable

datalogging.
is just a seperate connection to ecu, so you can record sensor readings in real time (or while driving) and troubleshoot problems... its basically how auto repair people plug into cars and diagnose problems...

to the lower left of where you put "modded chip" on p28 type ecu's.., you'll see 5 empty spots on ecu for pins... to datalog, you soldier 4 posts here so you can plug the 4 wires from your ecu, into your datalogger, (which is only a USB converter) then from datalogger, into laptop.

using both datalogger and ostrich 2.0 at same time
here is my routine., (keep in mind emulator is always plugged in my ecu., I use it as my "chip"), first I plug datalogger into ecu via 4 pin plug., then run a usb from datalogger, to laptop... then I run a usb from emulator to laptop.... start car,... open crome pro.. the software recognizes both devices.., I hit read., it displays current map.., after warming up.., I can make changes to all sensors, vtec, etc.... in real time.. click a change, car reacts instantly..., then click to start datalogging.. it records everything from rpm, to ignition timing, map pressure, temp, air/fuel ratio... bla, bla, bla

while datalogging I have a choice to "auto-tune", where crome pro tunes your car to Lambda or (standard) settings.., or just record entire trip to go over later.. thats where knowing all that tuning sh*t comes in handy..

anyway it goes on, and on from there.., I'm sure you get the drift..

I hope I answered some questions..., If I went over anything that is already known..., no disrespect intended..

here is some screenshots of crome pro.. from me, not from random internet screen shots..

Fool, you think we're stupid or somethin'?! lol

Pretty informative stuff. Now we can yell at the noobs to search for this instead of explaining it again and again. Good job.

P.S. - Do you just drive around with your ECU and Ostrich lying on the floorboard all the time? Seems pretty ballsy.
