cam gear cut out

so you guys all no about the cam gear cut outs i cant seem to get a picture up, but if you dont know what im talking about you can go to prelude3g.com click on engine on the top row then scroll down and you'll see Valve Cover Cam Gear Cut Out click on that and you can see what im talking about. I would like to do that but i live on a gravel road and dont want to damage anyting. should i worry about anything getting damaged or will i be ok doing it?

Re: cam gear cut out

it def wouldn't be the smartest idea, especially considering you live on a gravel road.
i wouldn't do it on a street car, IMO.

easy access to adjusting the cam gears...because you need to adjust them so often

Re: cam gear cut out

Well yes elude, you're right. However cam gears are generally only adjusted when you're tuning the engine, and how often do you do that?

Side note - the factory cam gears don't look that flash - most people who have the cutouts have aftermarket jobbies which look better. Because for the majority of the people who have done it that's exactly what it is - an aesthetic mod.

You would tune it on a dyno. Basically just try different timing combinations and see what gives you the power where you want it. I've had my valve cover cut for years and still haven't had anything fly in there
