motor advice.

hi guys, i just wanted some advice. i've been looking at swaping motors and i was wondering what you guys think about the h23a vtec motor. i've heard they're powerhouses and i've heard they suck. its got a manual transmission. i was also looking at the j or c series motors what do you guys think about those motors? any advice would be great. i've done my research on the motors but experince is much better. if anyone has had one of these motors before please tell. all advice is appreciated :)

Re: motor advice.

A lil info on your car would be nice but by the engine you mentioned i would think 4th or 5th gen, i just did the f20b vtec swap in my 4th gen and its a beast, my tranny bolted up fine and there was little wire work to be done,

Re: motor advice.

Mine is a 3rd gen it has the b20a5 motor in it and I think the piston rings are or are going bad :( cause when I let it idle for a moment and then press on the gas I get a puff of blue smoke, plus I wanna do a motor swap anyways. But I was just wondering what your guys thoughts on those motors are. Cause when searching before I've heard that the h23a vtec's are insane on power and they are great motors but I've heard others say that the h22's are more powerful and have a higher redline so I wanted some other input to see what the majority of people say about these motors. I also looked into the j series cause of there tourqe and there VCM but there SOHC and I would prefer DOHC that's why I looked at the c series but there so rare and hard to find which most likely means parts are gonna be expensive too. Oh and a little bit of info I did find a jdm h23a vtec with manual trans for $900.

Re: motor advice.

Ok there's a guy that did a h23 swap in his 3rd but i cnt find the link to it at this moment, what u will need is a mount kit for the 3rd gen to bolt in a f or h seris engine those or like $500 a new ecu preferably a chipped p28 thats another $200, jumper harness to go from obd0 to obd1 $50 ebay special. and other minor things. my question is where did you find a h23 vtec with tranny for $900 bc my f20b was almost that alone. Would you be doin the swap or havin a shop do it, bc if a shop does it that atleast another $1000, egine swaps arent as cheap as some ppl think they are. And i would think that u might need some new axles, not so sure on that 1, someone will correct me if i'm wrong

Re: motor advice.

well if you find his username please tell me maybe i could talk to him and get his opinion on the motor. i found it online. i knew about the mounts and stuff but ill check ebay for the wiring but if not i could pull a p28 ecu and plugs from a car at the junkyard and just use the whole thing and have it chipped right? the axles i read on a thread you can use from an integra, i have it written down somewhere but i believe its a 90 integra that works with the preludes wheels and the motor. ill be doing the work myself, i dont like shops working on my cars, plus i love working on cars so it will be fun!

Re: motor advice.
