returning to stock?

hey everyone,
i just got my 99 prelude a few weeks ago and im having an issue that i could use some advice with. formost just wanted to say that i love this car.
the car was modified by the original owner with an aem cai, dc header, and exhaust. this set-up sounds nice except at lower rpms the noise reverberates in my ears and is very annoying, to the point that it hurts my ears. i can feel the exhaust in my ears. i really like the performance of the car and everything ive been reading about my set-up tells me that they dont help with performance but just give the engine a different sound. if that is true then would returning to a stock set-up help with the exhaust noise and feel and would i notice a difference in performance? also, ive been wondering if applying better sound proofing to the undercarriage would help?
any advice would be appreciated. thanks C

Re: returning to stock?

does the exhaust have the stock cat on it? it very likely coulda been replaced by a test pipe which makes almost every car sound like ass.
if going back to the stock cat doesn't do it and you wanna do the entire stock exhaust, you'll hardly notice the performance difference, but this will without a doubt quiet down the car dramatically.
