92 SI swapped in jdm h22a

I finally blew up my h23 at 309,000 miles. I have spent almost a week in the shop with the help of a friend that knows more about cars than i do. It's in and runs. I'm very impressed so far but it needs a little more tweaking. having idle issues, which I think is a combination of a busted exhaust and a missing o2 sensor, but over all its a beast.

Guy I bought it off of said it had 40k miles on it when he bought it and he put around 60k, said it was rebuilt around 10k ago when he added cams and titanium springs and retainers. he cant remember exactly which ones but he said he thinks they were Skunk 2 cams. It was in a civic that he rolled and the guy bought a 99 prelude shell so.... he wasn't going to use a OBD1 in it. i talked him down to $800 which in my opinion was good considering i only had to drive across town to get it. Paid my buddy $200 to help make sure i was doing it right and we used his shop and tools.

Everything external pretty much came off my H23. dizzy, wiring harness, alternator, tranny, power steering, intake, and harmonic balancer. Paid $40 for some used DC headers. Wired Vtec. Swapped ECU. Replaced water pump and timing belt with new ones. Cranked up on the first try but didn't want to idle after it warmed up. Disconnected IACV wires, set the idle to 800 rpm and reconnected it then reset the computer. Now it idles when its warmed up. No vacuum leaks that we can find. My exhaust is so bad I'm not getting good back pressure. Took a days rest today will try to get time to pull the codes tomorrow. I know it will probably throw a transmission code, the ecu was for an auto and mine is manual.

I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow, maybe a video of it running so you can hear how bad my exhaust leak is. If only I had a little more cash on hand lol.

update:Fixed! running like a champ except a code 12 from time to time(EGR). gonna scrub the crap out of it and see if it goes away later. for right now I'm just going to spend time cleaning up all the mess we made

Re: 92 SI swapped in jdm h22a

nice, can't wait for pics/vids

but i'm telling you an exhaust leak will NOT cause an idle problem. ever.
but most of the time idle problems are easy fixes anyway. try these:
the FINAL idle problem thread!!!!!

Re: 92 SI swapped in jdm h22a

My car won't idle now because of the faulty knock sensor. Wouldn't idle when the previous one broke too... Anyway, I wish I could find a decent H22 for less than $1k

P13 : 93-95 OBD-1 Prelude Vtec
I'll verify what on mine when i get a chance

p.s. still waiting on my o2 wiring harness. if i dont get it this weekend I'll just go buy one. so i reset my CEL and the only thing that pulls up is the o2 now. but my idle is wierd, its not surging. sometimes it sits at 500rpm sometimes its at 1500rpm. doesn't stay where i set it. i disconnected my TPS tonight and the idle started out around 750rpm but as i drove the car it got higher and higher topping off at 1200rpm over a 30 mile stop and go drive. btw my throttle screw is all the way in. could all this be caused by a disconnected O2 sensor?

Re: 92 SI swapped in jdm h22a

sorry been working on random stuff and hit a pot hole and ruined another 205 50 15. put my old 195 60s on and 2 had dry rotted on me so i had to hit up the used tire warehouse and buy 2 more. got my alignment done. feels like a new car. yes i used my old h23 harness but my car wasn't wired for Vtec, i think some of the 93s are. i spent tonight rechecking vacuum lines cause i was sure that was the problem with my egr and i was right. not sure what my bud was doing but lets just say my butterflys weren't hook up right either so i ripped all the lines off and started fresh. now no code 12 and i have low end torque again. i have an extra line now, he had the intake control solenoid valve ran to where the starting air valve is supposed to connect and had that connected to the Evap purge control solenoid valve.... read JDM doesn't have a starting air valve and i looked and couldn't find one.

Uploaded 2 pics 1st one is how its supposed to be hooked up the second is how he had it hooked up. i'm surprised the car ran lol

PS. yeah mine is the p13
