is it doing this?

its normal for the cel to come one as you turn the key but if it turns back off you're good. its when it stays on you have a problem

Re: prelude CEL

This may sound stupid, but are you using something metal? I can't think of any reason it wouldn't flash...

You do this without the car running btw...

Re: prelude CEL

Use a paperclip and unwind it to make it look like a letter "U" then insert them into the jumper sockets. Turn the car onto the first click before startign the car and you should then be able to see the flashes of what codes you're getting....

Re: prelude CEL

Try it with the car on...my CEL does not store for some reason and I had to do this in order to read it.

i think thats what happened, the clip worked. i had written down the list of codes earlier so i found it was the o2 sensor and plugged it back in. CEL is back to normal

Re: prelude CEL

push the seat all the way back. then lay in your car. look towards the gas pedal and you'll see either a piece of carpet or nothing(mine had nothing) if theres carpet pull it down and reach right behind the plastic center console piece. there'll be 2 plugs(mine were connected) feel around and you should find them pretty easily.

I have the same exact issue. But I thought jumping the wires with the car on is a no-no.

Figuratively speaking it is in very rare cases its been known to cause damage to your ECU but in older cars it sometimes cant be helped.

Op: Your sputtering issue can involve a vast array of issues from fuel starvation to a faulty sensor. Just because an item fails does not mean your CEL will indefinitely come on. Look at small things first like air filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug cables, and distributor timing. If it all checks out either inform us in your current thread or create a specified thread.
