Idle problem!

Before anyone flames me I checked the Final Idle Problem Thread and did everything and it stays the same. My idle fluctuates from 1k to 2k. When I plug this hole in the throttle with my finger it goes back to normal. Whats that hole for/from/go to.

Re: Idle problem!

The one with the adjustment plunger is the FITV and that's for the one on the bottom. I checked it just to make sure and re-adjusted it and cleaned the IACV. It probably went bad, which I don't doubt.

Re: Idle problem!

Clean the idle screw. I fought this problem, cleaned the carbon out of the t-body, everything. My problem was fixed when I removed the idle screw and cleaned it and the seat.

I just went at it with a screwdriver. In hindsight, one might want do clean the fixer from the screwdriver slot before attempting removal. I kind of fubared the slot a bit because the screwdriver didn't seat well but got it done anyways.

First, I marked the TB where the screw slot was. I then backed it out a couple of turns to break up the stuff they put on there to keep it from moving and to tell if someone has messed with it. COUNT THE TURNS! I then cranked it back in the couple of turns and then counted the turns to seat. For my car, it was about 1/4 turn from seat. The a fore mentioned mark gets you right back to where you started.

I then pulled the screw and cleaned it. It's brass/bronze but you couldn't tell from the way it looked when I took it out. Totally coated in carbon even though I sprayed the **** out of the assembly before with gumout. Cleaned it with scotch-brite and then cleaned the seat. I used a #2 phillips screwdriver with a small swatch of scotch brite and some more gumout. Carefully work it down the bore with a twisting motion till you feel it scrubbing the seat. PAY ATTENTION! If you feel anything like metal to metal contact, add another swatch of scotch brite.

I did all this with the TB removed so I could easily inspect and make sure it was clean. This is important because it allowed me to remove all of the "fixer" with a knife. I then re-greased the O-ring and reinstalled the screw.

I then applied some black finger nail polish I borrowed from the girlfriend to the top of the screw/counter bore to hold it in place. I imagine any color would do.

Idles just perfect now.
