Firstly, welcome mate. Since the VTiR was exclusive to this neck of the woods I'll assume you're from Aust or NZ or somewhere in the area.

Does it only do it when hot (ie, hot day, been driving for a while) or does it do it all the time? If it's only missbehaving when it's hot, a fluid flush and change will possibly solve the problem. Regular fluid changes are about the only way to keep these autos alive. They do have a documented failure rate, though it's not nearly as high as people will have you believe.

If it's only when it's hot then I would think that a fluid change/flush would fix it. Though like I said, these gearboxes have a higher than average failure rate, so I'd start saving for a replacement.
