1999 Honda Prelude Engine Ticking noise

So the other day I left to go to work. Jumped on the highway and slowly got up to highway speed. Had the radio and heater on, was driving in 5th gear and got a weird feeling. So I turned off the heater and radio and could hear a noisy ticking from the engine. It sounded like a baseball card in bicycle spokes. I slowed down, pulled over and turned off the car. It had the oil light on because it needed oil, so i put some in and started the car. It restated fine but it ticked under driving load up to 2200 rpm, then it would disappear until I shifted and the RPMs dropped. I made it home and tore off the valve cover and checked my timing belt which looked fine. Put valve cover back on and made sure I had enough oil. Restarted the 'lude and in neutral it ticks around 2500 RPM. When it drives it ticks all the way upto 3000 rpm then stops until you step on the throtle. Not sure if the low oil brought it on or exagerated it. Prior to this I also had a EGR issue. I'm thinking after looking at other threads that it might be a valve issue, carbon build up or a wrist pin problem. I typically run 91 or 93 whichever is cheaper.

I'm going to guess crank bearings are going bad. They make a grinding/clicking noise at certain rpms when they are on their way out. especially if you have been driving the car low on oil.

Sounds like a rod knock to me. Running on low oil over time can cause this.

Well im gonna go with valves. You may need a valve adjustment. Over time the valve springs get weak and the rocker arms need to me tightened to make up for it. Now the reason your only hearing it at lower rpm is because the rockers are hitting the valves at a slower rate so its easier to make out the noise. When you speed up they are moving at such a higher speed that its like at a sound only a dog can hear sort of speak. Also other parts of your vehicle such as your exhaust are getting louder and over taking the faint noise. This is what has been happening to my car and it fixed the problem. Now depending on exactly what that ticking noise sounds like, i would go with valves.

If it sounds like a slapping/ticking noise and it's coming from the passenger side then it's possible that you might have what I had. My crank was grinded down to near nothing and it was barely making the crank pulley rotate.

If you see the link under my sig there's a pic of my recent swap on my Lude and there's a pic of a bolt. It's a bit blurry but it shows thick tranny fluid all around the magnet along with countless amounts of metal shavings!!!
