s2000 wheel in a 4th gen... need both 4th gen and 5th gen guys help here fellahs---

Guys I have a 4th gen prelude that I want to use the s2000 steering wheel in.

I KNOW THE SPLINES ARE DIFFERENT.

But I'm having a shop modify it so that the s2000 wheel will physically fit the 4th gen's spline.

Now that thats done, I've gotta worry about the air bag and cruise and horn wiring.

Now I've read this link at NTPG: 5g S2k Wheel Install

And I'm CONFIDENT that I can follow that DIY and use it.

MY problem is, I'm not sure that the connectors for the Air Bag and Cruise on the 5th gen are the same on the 4th gen. I KNOW they're not the same as the S2000's and therefore will require modification. I wanna know if 4th and 5th gens are the same.

And thats what I need your help with fellahs... Other than the spline issue, do you all know if this DIY write up will work for the 4th gen?

Thanks in advance for any/all help/info you can provide!

Also can anyone confirm... I was told that the AP2 wheel cannot work beacuse it has a stage 2 air bag, and we have got use a stage 1 air bag... is this accurate?

Ultimately I think I can figure out the cruise control, its the airbag connector i'm concerned with beacuse I really dont want to mess with the wires for that-

These are the only pics I can find of the 4th gen's airbag connector. If you have any info on this or can help me figure this out before I start dropping money on an AP1 wheel, I'd REALLY appreciate it!

Re: s2000 wheel in a 4th gen... need both 4th gen and 5th gen guys help here fellahs-

to be completely sure you need an ohm meter, your 4th gen clock spring(i think thats what it's called) and steering wheel with the cruise and air bag and the s2000 clock spring with cruise and air bag. lay them side by side and disconnect all connectors take one of the ohm meter probes to the first pin of the under dash harness coming from the clock spring and use the other probe to find it's other end in the air bag or cruise connectors. you will get ~0ohms when you find it. then test the same wire on the other steering wheel. if they are different then you will have to rewire if they're all the same then im sure you'll be quite happy!

Re: s2000 wheel in a 4th gen... need both 4th gen and 5th gen guys help here fellahs-

I dont mind doing that, thing Is I dont want to buy all this stuff if the the connectors dont match up.

Thats step one beacuse if the connectors dont match, then I'll definitly have to rewire, which I'm not willing to do and this whole thing is a moot point.

if the connectors match then chances are the wires are the same or at the very least gives me enough hope for it to be worth it for me to go ahead and buy the wheels and hope for the best and test once i receive per your instructions

Re: s2000 wheel in a 4th gen... need both 4th gen and 5th gen guys help here fellahs-

the ****ty thing about the srs system is all the wires are the same color... they might be numbered though! been a while since i messed with one and it was on a 94 civic. ohm meters can be had for extremely cheep. you can also just make your own tester out of a 9 volt batt, some wire and a light bulb. if i have to explain how then you probably shouldn't be doing this lol. rewiring isnt bad. you just have to test all the wires to be safe. thing is. if theres more than just the horn and cruise controls on the s2000 wheel then it wont match up. cruise is 3 wires, horn is 1 wire and air bag is 2. if the s2000 has more than 6 wires it wont connect.

the connectors don't match.

honda does this as a safety measure, that way someone can't simply throw any old air bag in, drive it, and have the air bag go off accidently and lead them into a law suit.

You're positive? Or speculating? Many Hondas wheels and bags are interchangible.

Re: s2000 wheel in a 4th gen... need both 4th gen and 5th gen guys help here fellahs-

i cant imagine thats entirely true. i know for a fact the bags and cruise controls from other cars are interchangeable at the wheel, the question is, are they interchangeable under the dash?

another option for you might be to use the 4th gen clock spring! then the only wires you'll have to mess with will be behind the airbag and it will be quite clear as to where they go. but im not sure if the 4g CS will fit with the s2k wheel...

Re: s2000 wheel in a 4th gen... need both 4th gen and 5th gen guys help here fellahs-

I have a service manual home (I'm in orlando for the weekend) for my 4th gen prelude.

Does anyone know where I can get the pages regarding the steering wheel/airbag in the helms for the 5th gen prelude? and also for the 4th gen? If no one has a 4th, thats fine I can wait till I get home for the relevant pages of the 4th gen svc manual, but what does anyone have those pages for the 5th gen?

I imagine that would tell me everything I need to know.
