Car is having serious issues!!! Help!!

If its not one thing its another with this car...
I was driving the other day and took my foot off the gas and the car stayed cruising at 3000rpm as if it were on cruise control. I have to take the car out of gear and SLAM on the breaks to get it to stop at a light and it takes a couple seconds for it to come out of 3000rpm and drop down to idle.

Someone please help....anyone with any input is greatly appreciated

Re: Car is having serious issues!!! Help!!

its always been on even when the car wasnt having issues....i dont have a gas gauge or temp gauge. Theres some electrical issues in the dash.... so i dont really know what is on or not i unhooked the check engine light because it was always on.

Re: Car is having serious issues!!! Help!!

First of all, I'll hook the CEL back on and check why is on.
Go here:
How To: Diagnosing Your Check Engine Light (OBD I)

And you should also check for any vacuum line around the intake manifold that maybe cracked or has fallen off. The extra air coming in can cause the idle to rise.

And the fuel/temp gauge going out is a very common problem in our cars, search around the forum and you'll find more on this issue.

x2^^

Sometimes gunk can build up on the throttle cable. Che ck that out and make sure it isn't kink or bent on anything.

Also, I would suggest checking the intake butterfly. Which can be seen at the very top of the image also circled in red. just take the intake off( one screw to loosen a clamp) and detach the vacumm line. From there you should be able to look into the throttle body and see the butterfly vavle, just give it a good wipe down with a cloth saturated in car cleaner. let dry re assemble and start car.

Re: Car is having serious issues!!! Help!!

To 92 hondaprelude si: I am sorry for calling you bro, back to the issue the check engine light is key ,because that's the way it signals you to know if some thing isn't working properly ,and that way it wouldn't cause further damage ,like you having know ,the reason it wasn't causing any driving problems before was because the ecu was compensating for any engine demands ,and know something can not be adjusted any more, it has found a fault and it needs to repaired.Tell me how can i help you more?.

Re: Car is having serious issues!!! Help!!

dus it do that when it's cold or just when its at norm temp? if this is so it might be the i.a.c valve or a f***d cold start valve hope that helps. sometimes people cut out the cat box and that puts the cel light on and that's why thy remove the bulb.
