Suspension noob cold use a hand :\

Lately as I've been driving I get a clunk when turning (left only) decelerating, cruising or stopping. Not accelerating for some reason. It's consistent like 5-10 clunks every 10 seconds. It's gotten so bad in the past few days that I don't wanna drive the car :\

If it seems like any point in this thread I don't know what i'm talking about you are probably correct cause suspension is not my strong point.

I tried shaking the wheel to test the ball joints but they to be alright

So I took my wheels off and this is what I found

The driver's side axle when I move it around makes a slight clunking noise so this leads me to believe that this is my problem

Also I did see that the boot on my steering rack? I think that's what it is is ripped and don't know if that could be causing something also

Any help or other suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks guys

Re: Suspension noob cold use a hand :\

could you move the axle at all? either in and out or side to side?
and is it def a CLUNKING, or a clicking?

since it appears that it's the drivers-side (left) tie-rod boot thats torn, and it only happens when turning left so the steering rack is pulling the left tie-rod INTO the rack, i wouldn't be surprised if that's causing the problem.

It's def a clunk. I could feel the axle wiggle a little bit when I tried to shake it but it didn't move noticeably at all. Thanks, is there anything else I could do to ensure that the problem is the tie rod?

My whole car thumped, because I needed a passanger side axle... The universal joint where it goes into the tranny was F-U-C-K-E-D...

Check that out maybe?

Re: Suspension noob cold use a hand :\

just to put some light on the issue like you guys posted ,simple way to jack up car put it on stands start the car, then disconnect the tie rod and the turn the wheel, by hand see if axle makes any cluncking noise ,also if the tie rods are bad your will have bad alignment issues .
