changing the front main seal. help

my front main seal started leaking about a little over a week ago. i plan on changing the seal this weekend when i get the time. is there anything i should try avoiding to not cause harm to the damage? is there anything i can do to make the change easier? what could be damaged if i don't do the job correctly? im not doubting myself im just curious about the last question. ur help will be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance.

Re: changing the front main seal. help

the most damage that's possible?
putting the timing belt on completely wrong, and destroying the head and pistons but no pressure.

hardest part is gonna be getting the crank pulley bolt off. second hardest part is getting the balancer and timing belts back on, while keeping everything lined up correctly.

Re: changing the front main seal. help

i was reading up on this and it said that if i try and put to much force to loosen the crank pulley bolt that i can bend some valves......how true is that? also is it ridiculously hard to re-align everything?

Re: changing the front main seal. help

if your trying to just do the seal, then you shouldn't have to remove the timing belt, simply take off the accessory belt that runs over the crank pulley, then use a 1/2 impact gun to get the pulley bolt out, then there is the seal. There is a special tool to take that out and instal it though.

the front main seal is the oil seal that's behind the timing/balancer belt and gears, which is located on the oil pump.

what your talking about is simply a rubber seal that prevents dirt and shiit from getting under the timing covers.
