1st start problem

I'm having a difficulties starting after night or when the engine cooled off cempletely. In the morning have to crank for a 10-20 sec then when i hear the first fireups, then cranking again starts the car right away. Then any time - no problem until the car is left standing for a couple of hours.
Have changed distributor, spark plugs spark wires, checked the pgm-fi main relay.Tried to start with gas pedal to the floor, tried to turn the ignition back and forth in case the fuel pump can't built up the proper pressure from the first turn.
NOTHING...
Maybe someone has any suggestions?
F series engine

Re: 1st start problem

: I see your new , i will try to give you some ideas okay. First your batt should be good and the connections have to be clean and tight and the engine grounds should be checked , how to test the battery on the car is as follows, turn on your lights and heater switch to on position ,try starting the car ,if the battery is good ,it should keep everything bright ,and if the light dimmers your problem might be the battery ,If the batt is good then you have check the stater it could be draining the batt, on the load usually the solonod is bad and gets stuck and won't spin the reluctor gear inside the stater that turns the flywheel .You said you changed the distributor and some other stuf ,you didn't say what gen prelude you have .Allso did you have a check engine light on ?or is it on know that give more info .Let me know Keep me posted John

Re: 1st start problem

No check engine light. F series is noisy when cold(as far as i know), so no just a usual sound.
Good point about the engine ground, will check on that.
Battery should be good, i'll check that too. Starter seems ok, at least it spins the engine.
4 gen
Have changed the PCV valve today, but the old one was good.
Planning to clean fuel filters this weekend, both on the pump and under the hood(will have to change this one).
Still cant' sort out if this is a fuel delivery or an ignition problem. But it needs just a couple of fireups, then starts like new.

Re: 1st start problem

My last prelude did this, when i checked the compression it was low in a couple cylenders. If u heat up the engine by putting it in a warm garage it should start up if this is the case. Check you compression and go from there. good luck
