Icon2 Intake control valve delete?

Okay guys, I have a 1997 Lude base model. I got bored this weekend and was cleaning up my engine bay, deleting brackets, power steering, cruise control, (pointless cuz i converted to manual trans and didn't wanna buy the manual cruise control) the usual. ;) I also starting doing a mild wire tuck, and I have everything hidden/deleted on the right side on the engine bay. As I was getting into the left side, I came upon a black box directly behind the battery (towards the firewall). I looked in the helms and it happens to be the intake control solenoid valve, diaphragm, and the black box with a couple vacuum lines coming off, one was already plugged, and the other goes to the intake manifold. Now to my question, Is there a way to delete this or hide it? The only thing that I'm worried about is the electrical connector hooked up to it. I don't want to cause any unnecessary check engine lights. Reason for wanting to delete is the obvious eye sore and lack of being able to move the main harness wires around with it in the way. Sorry if i over-explained but better than not enough lol. Thanks for any help you guys can provide

Re: Intake control valve delete?

Sweet that's what I needed to know man. i got most of it done, just need to extend the main harness wires enough to at least tuck under the fuse box. It'll work until I pull the engine for a forged rebuild

Re: Intake control valve delete?

Ohhh That's the vacuum box I've heard about, I had a hunch it was.. The person that owned the car before me already had the intake replaced, and the resonator, but half-assed everything on the car. everything from one bolt in the engine mounts to loose suspension parts. SCARY thought. Thankfully when I did the 5 speed swap I found just about everything. Thanks for the help guys, oh and keep in mind this was a nights work and my first time. this was all done without taking off the fenders or extending wires, that will come soon, when I have the energy to cap off the auto wires and such too. The only ones I'm not sure about are my alternator wires (like that cuz i no longer have a p/s bracket for the black cover to bolt to), and my Main negative and positive cables. I'm undecided about moving the battery to the trunk, although it'd clear the engine bay up significantly haha. All in due time. Any comments or suggestions are Welcome.

Re: Intake control valve delete?

Oh Annnd I forgot to mention my brake booster vacuum lines and others are also getting changed so I can move them around rather than the pre formed ones. I would post a before picture but I'm afraid I don't have one from before the deletes and clean up. just imagine several years of grime and dust crammed in between every little nook and cranny haha, Now that it's clean and bare hopefully i can keep it that way.

Re: Intake control valve delete?

you should def do the battery, it'll be a bigggg diff cleaning up the bay.

i'm in the same boat as you, clean engine bay. so far i've ditched; PS, CC, EGR, evap, batt reloc, civic 1/2 rad, washer fluid, vac lines on firewall, and ABS is gonna be soon too.

Re: Intake control valve delete?

Very nice. I pondered deleting the evap so i could take off that huge ugly can, and egr, but until i get a new ecu i'm sure that will be a ton of check engine codes lol. either way it was a huge step forward in the engine bay, and free :)
