ebay fog lights.?

well i alwayts wanted the jdm foglights, but the real ones are way too expensive. so i have a few questions:
-are the replicas ones any good from ebay?
-is it easy to install?
-some fog lights are cheaper than otheres (by like 5-10 dollars) but look exactly thesame
-will my HID lights out light the fogs where that peopl cant see the fogs since the HIDS are so strong?
-if i get the clear fogs, can i make the color yellow?

Re: ebay fog lights.?

Over 9000 threads on this already. If you buy them, don't put HIDs them, although I've heard of some people having success with HIDs. I wouldn't risk it, because I've also heard the housings can melt, since I guess they're plastic and real JDM fogs are glass. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure that's why.

I've heard they're pretty straight forward to install.

Yes you can make them yellow, but why not just buy the ones that are already yellow?

i dont want the housing to be yellow, but i want the light output to be yellow. imo, if the headlights is clear, and turn signals is clear, and theres some yellow fog lights (assuming no lights are on for any of these), it looks quite ugly.

Re: ebay fog lights.?

sorry but 1 questioin that i wanted to know. some ebay sellers sell them for 70, and some for 78, some for 80 etc... its a few dollars apart. so would the 78 dollar one be cheaper quality than the 80/85 dollars..? :S

oh and 1more thing... i have the mugen front bumper... this jdm fog light replica will fit prefectly right? and how hard is it to take off the bumper? as i will have to take it off and place it in my stock bumper for the winter!

okay ill go ahead and order it. but again, these 5-10 dollar differences in different ebay sellers makes no difference in quality right?

Re: ebay fog lights.?

V2 is harder to install (due to weird harness), better quality light though, so you could probably run HID's.

OP was asking about running HID headlights and fogs. Ideally if it is foggy, you should just be running your parkers, not headlights (since they may reflect off of the fog).

Headlights HID or otherwise will overpower fogs, since they are designed to provide a low wide beam below your headlights. If you want something bright, then get driving lights instead. I do know that the original version didn't have shrouded bulbs, making them not technically fog lights. V2 has a shroud like the OEM ones do. Also some people were retrofitting Suburu projectors, which should provide much more output.

For yellow, PIAA do some nice yellow H3C bulbs. Can also get cheap eBay ones (probably die much sooner) or use yellow capsules over the top of clear bulbs (presumably reduces output more).

Sounds like you have the v1's. Install is basically the same as OEM with most people replacing the dimmer switch. Just make sure it is on full, tape it up and leave it behind the console.

Re: ebay fog lights.?

Flasher relay is based on the resistance of the circuit. Blow a bulb or add LED's and you will get hyper flashing. Replace the broken bulb and it will go back to normal.

Also seen the flasher modified with a potentiometer so you can adjust. If you are going to that trouble though, you could just gut the stock flasher and solder in an electronic flasher relay (same delay no matter the load/resistance). More for people running LED's though, if you have a broken indicator, it should be fixed.

so your saying the problem is that one of my bulbs is brokenÉ since my front left signal isnt working, then thats probably broken rightÉ

Re: ebay fog lights.?

Well the indicator not working is causing the hyper-flashing and the most likely reason it isn't working is a blown bulb. Good opportunity to rip out the orange shroud and run chrome orange bulbs so that the front indicators match better with the new fogs. Bulb should be T20 7440's from recollection.

Re: ebay fog lights.?

Our flasher relay is I think 5/6 pins so I guess left/right/emergency circuits. If any of your left is out, then the others will blink fast, but I guess the right would be fine (different circuit). Here blinker && turn signal == indicator so I might have confused you a bit.

I am talking about the orange plastic inside of the front turn signal (the ones above the fogs). With fogs the orange just doesn't look right (the indicators and fogs form a single shape).

Remove that plastic though and run regular bulbs and you won't have orange/amber signals, so you need orange bulbs. Problem then is that the reflectors reflect the orange so it still doesn't look right. Chrome orange bulbs, you get the chrome reflecting so they look fine. Indicate though and they light up orange. Could also run orange LED's, looking at hyper flashing again though unless you fix the flasher relay or run resistors.

Perhaps you like the orange plastic though? Just saying that bulbs often come in pairs so it would be a good opportunity to remove the orange plastic shields. If not just buy a regular replacement bulb. Guess really the first step is to remove the bulb and visually inspect to see if it really is blown. Bulbs are cheap though so you may as well have a replacement ready to go.

If this just happened when you installed the fogs, then maybe it isn't the bulb though. Possible that you unplugged it and forgot to put it back. Bayonet style fitting though, so it shouldn't have just come loose.

This is what I was talking about:

ohhh i get what you mean by the orange signals. yeah i completely agree with you, looks WAY better. but the thing is, it was such a pain for me to put the fogs and signals back together. the fogs are being held by zip ties -.- so im just going to take out the signal when i get my bumper repainted next year so itèll stay the same right now. is there a DIY to get rid of the amber in the signalsÉ

im not 100% sure if it was working right after i installed it. im going to go check if its a blown bulb. i hope it is. but taking off the bumper is a PITA.!

but anyway thanks a lot for the help and info, i greatly appreciate it

The v2 can take up to 55 watts and most HIDs are 35 watts you have a pretty good chance of them not melting

is this to me or somebody elseÉ yeah its weird.. the HIDS are cooler than normal bulbs that they use in the replica fogs so how come people say their replicas melts when they use HIDSÉ so if i use HID for my fogs, then ièll have to buy the whole kit rightÉ
