Re: What oil to use!!

on INITIAL start-up you wanna use the nastiest, cheapest oil possible to flush out all the bearing and assembly lube. i think you let it idle for 10-15 minutes, then do another oil and filter change and use whatever you want.

Re: What oil to use!!

"best oil" is a subjective thing. Some have used Mobil 1 synthetic (for example) all their lives and will never use anything else. Others would use it in their lawnmower.

Oil is one of those things where people for some reason or another seem to have an attraction to one brand, and will defend that brand to the death, despite the fact that they don't know why.

Re: What oil to use!!

Well if you want to save money and use the 3rd best oil on the market I would use Valvoline 5w30 in the white bottle. It out does every oil beside ams oil and penzoil platinum. Oh and use a wix nascar filter it is the best on the market (well with out ordering an Ams oil one) k&n filters are over priced wix

Re: What oil to use!!

I tend to lean towards Mobil 1, but I used Valvoline Max-Life in the Geo. Most high mileage cars I own get 20w50 til I get a chance to tear them down. twokexlv6coupe makes a good point on the flush though. I would run some cheap off brand and let the engin run for about 20 mins. then drain it and put in the good stuff and a new filter. Better safe than sorry.

over priced junk

the only thing good about it, is it cleans the heck out of your motor, but every oil that has a full syn will do that

So you're getting basically no protection on start up?

I put in 0w30 full synthetic last winter, I still need to change it. Yeah, I'm lazy.

If I drove enough I would switch to 5w30 for summer and back to 0w30 for winter.

Trust me, the lude will never see 20w50. I used it in the Geo cause I built the engine to use it. And after 145,000 miles, I would say that it got plenty of protection at start-up, or it would be dead by now. The lude will get 10w30 being that I now live in the great state of florida.

Re: What oil to use!!

There are a lot of oil brands that come from the exact some manufacturer but with different labels on the bottles.

People always ask us what oil we use in our snowmobiles and always tell them the cheap walmart two stroke oil. They think we're crazy that we would put such a cheap product in a high performance engine when they are running synthetic oils that can cost over $30 for a gallon and will go through over a quart in one day of easy riding. However the guys running those synthetic oils will have to take off power valves every 500 miles and clean the carbon build up out so the valve will function; we've run 2000+ miles on each snowmobile with very little carbon build up and we pay a quarter of the cost for oil.

Pretty much what I'm getting at, expensive oils aren't always the best.

I have to tell you 2 stroke oil is somewhat different to oil that dos,nt burn with gas oil in a car has to stay in the engine lubing all the moving parts cams ect ect so its real important what type brand and viscosity you use synthetic oil makes a huge difference to the life and performance of a twin camed engine with vtec way back i used to race alfas we send in samples to the lab after running races we sent in 20 different bands of oil including mobil 1 and thats what came out less broken down than any other oil those were the days before royal purple i,m interested to know more about that oil has anyone had lab tests done if so i would love to know how it did.

It's all well and good to have an opinion, but stating something is the best without facts to back it up isn't cool.

It's all well and good to have an opinion, but stating something is the best without facts to back it up isn't cool.
Haha, Mobil1 and Royal Purple are known to do better when it comes to whp and the dyno, not by much, something like 5hp.

All motor oils are the same when it comes to protecting the engine though...they all do their job.

I personally use Valvoline with a Fram filter, but if my car were pushing some extreme ponies, I would def be using mobil1 or royal purple.

not really. If all oils did the same efficiency of oiling then the research and development of discovering better oiling properties would be at a stale mate.

Mobil1 used to be one of the best, but it has really jumped ship in the last couple years.

Welcome
