Engine trouble

So My engine has gone to ****. I have a 93 h23 and it has all kinds of problems.(including harmonic balancer, bad knocking, and oil leak.) so i have a few questions on my fellow luders opinions.

Should I look into rebuilding what i have and making it really strong, and if so how much would i be looking to pay. My issues with this route is
1.) how much power can i build it up to without a turbo?
2.) Is the h23 really as turbo friendly

Or should i just drop a new h22 in and wait a bit before building it up? questions here are
1.) what are some reputable companies to order from?
2.) encountering problems with having an h22 engine and a h23 tranny.

thanks for all the help, and i tried searching the forum for some answers but couldn't find any.

Re: Engine trouble

hey just find out what can you afford and what is needed for a rebuild doing it your self, and then it will give better idea .From there you can choose another set up or yours remember your engine i think it's closed deck .Do you know a lot of these engines they can take if the maintenance is up to paw. Keep searching there plenty of site and write ups.JOHn

Re: Engine trouble

Just so you know, you have a crank pully not a harmonic balancer, unless you put a harmonic balancer on it.

They h23 will not show crazy amounts of power without boost, an h22 head or tons of money.

Let us know your budget but for now I'm going to suggest getting another h23.

Re: Engine trouble

honestly.. i would do a jdm h22 swap w/ lsd tranny. you can order from Hmotors, jdmenginedepot, tigerjapanese, osakamotors.....etc i have dealt w/ those companies before and have no problems.

Re: Engine trouble

im not expecting to be pushing a whole lot of power just off the h23 right away. Nor am i looking to blow people away even with the turbo. I have about a $3000 budget. The new h22 with lsd tranny i found was anywhere from 1400 to 1800 so its an option. Id just really like to have the turbo for the obvious reason. i just dont know where to find all the aftermarket parts to rebuild the h23 in order to get a price range
