Well you could go to the dealer and get it for 2500 dollars, or go to any auto parts store and buy an aftermarket one for oh roughly 500

Uh... maybe

oh and any recommended cat converter that will pass here in CA that is a good price?
Doesn't really matter as long as it works, only thing it affects is how clean your emissions are, although with the aftermarkets it's possible your car may bitch at you and throw a cel sometimes since the computer might not like it

I've heard very good thing about the magnaflow cats.
But the one you have there will have to be weld in place. I'm sure you can find a magnaflow cat that can be bolt on which is easier.

Also check under the car because if the owner is telling you it needs a cat and the car have been modded like you said in the other post then I'll suspect the owner took it off to get the awesome power gain of 2hp

not entirely sure as to why you decided you need to make another thread buuut...whatever...

check this out. http://www.google.com/products?hl=en...title&resnum=4 I just skimmed it, most will say if they are CA compliant or not. not half bad prices either...

Re: Catalytic Converter? few quick questions

you'll want to be really careful about which aftermarket cat is really legal in cali. for us, it's also not just emissions. the cat needs to be certified by carb. take a look at this: http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/aftermk...ftermktcat.htm. basically, if you get a cat from the list, you should be fine. if you don't, good luck finding a station that will let you pay them off... there's a lot less of them nowadays.
