Importing UKDM to the states!!

Hi all,
Forgive me if this is the wrong section, but i'm looking for a little "local knowledge" from you guys :)

Late spring next year (2010) i will be emigrating to Oregon from the UK, i want to bring my car with me. It's a UKDM 1996 4g Prelude. :::MaDMaXX::: 1996 VTec (UKDM)

The car will be sailing into Seattle, but i need to have it checked/modified to adhere to US laws, to do this i need to contact a registered importer/modifier to carry out the work.

I have a list of quite a few in WA and wondered if anyone has dealt with any of the companies before and would recommend them at all?

Also, any other help you might have or recommendations, let me know.
Thanks.

While I can't offer a reccommendation for a workshop, I can tell you that if you passed your last MOT then you'll pretty much sail through. The UK's MOT tests are a lot stricter than anything the guys in the US will look at.

Re: Importing UKDM to the states!!

It will have an MOT, but i understand there are other regulations, other than headlights (BTW i need some facelift headlights if anyone has a good set?)
Namely, the bumper regulations, does anyone know what this entails? I've seen the workshop manual shows the states lude with like bullbars under the bumpers, what's all that about?

By bullbar I assume you mean to support on the front? If so certain regulations state that a car must be able to under-go an impact at x miles/ kilometers an hour befour that support is broken. Im speaking from canadian rules but other than emmisions they are pretty darn close. Hope that made some sense. Its way to early

Re: Importing UKDM to the states!!

Thanks guys, the entry port is Seattle, but i'll be driving it down to Portland, OR area to live ;)

I assume you guys have the Honda designated KY model?

If you check the workshop manual, pages 20-61 and 20-64, that contains the specific bumper madness on there. Are those the kind of thing i can buy from you guys?

Re: Importing UKDM to the states!!

Sure, there'll be somebody parting a car out when you get there.

Re: Importing UKDM to the states!!

Not having much luck with this :(

Had only two respond to my emails both of which said they can't help.

One came back saying they only do Canadian imports, fair enough, the other said they couldn't help with emissions.

I don't need emissions help, i just need the car approving, it's emissions will pass. But they wouldn't even entertain me :(
