EGR block off

I've been trying to find any information on this and see that there are conflicting opinions. Some say that blocking the EGR works fine even with all sensors plugged in. Others say that blocking it off will throw codes no matter what you do.

I've also been having a P1399 code that seems to says random misfire that is connected to EGR and vacuum leaks. And random cylinder misfires. Which, despite everyone's help has been very difficult and found no end.

However, I decided to start testing certain codes and sensors since it all seemed to start with the original EGR blocked or broken code. I unplugged the sensor directly to the EGR and it misfired in cylinder 1 and 3. Plugged it back in and unplugged the sensor to the EGR solenoid and had no misfires what so ever, just the P1491- EGR lift insufficient.. but NO misfires.

What I want is to block the EGR but trick the sensors into thinking they are working. My brother suggested a resistor for the solenoid, but I'm not quite sure which wires to solder the resistor to.

Anyone had any experience or heard of someone doing this?

Re: EGR block off

it'll throw a code.

it's simple: just unhook your EGR plug and see what happens if you don't trust me.

Re: EGR block off

Last night I did and it still throws a 1491. Better to have that than misfires I suppose.

Re: EGR block off

So is there any benefit of blocking the EGR? I don't have emissions so if the only downside is a CEL (I don't have an SH either so no ATTS issue) is it worth it to buy a EGR blocker plate?

Re: EGR block off

Not worth it at all. Unless it's being done to a full on race car, and every tenth of a hp counts.

Re: EGR block off

or you get a tuned ECU and they turn off your EGR so you can delete your entire EGR system like me
