clutch help

so my car has been sitting in my driveway for a long time. long story short, a ****ty mechanic couldnt have messed up more on my h23 to h22 swap so it has to sit in my driveway until we settle with our lawsuit against them.

it always ran but when i went out to start it my clutch pedal just dropped to the floor, the actual pedal still has spring but its either up or down. the car still starts fine and i can put it into gear but goes no where without the clutch working. i have a feeling its simply a disconnected cable but it would help to know some options to help solve it. any ideas?

Re: clutch help

alright, clutch fluid was out, filled up that and all my fluids. now, it will only start in neutral and when i try to start it in gear it tries to jump. the clutch still sits on the floor or fully up. i tried pumping it with my hand for a while just to see if it would work fluid into it but no luck.

Re: clutch help

cuz now you gotta bleed the entire system of air. if there's any air in the system what-so-ever, the air will get compressed instead of the fluid when you pump the pedal, giving you no pressure.

IIRC, to bleed the clutch needs two people; one pumping the pedal, and the other opening and closing the valve.
pretty sure it goes:
-open valve
-push pedal to floor
-close valve
-pull pedal up
-repeat.

Re: clutch help

thanks so much, i knew it would be just a minor issue, hopefully all goes well. just to avoid further confusion, where is this valve i should be opening and closing.

Re: clutch help

nevermind that. alright i bled the clutch probably like 30 times. it was coming out of the bleed valve like it is supposed to but i only have an inch or two of clutch pressure so its barely off the floor still. i have let it sit for a while too in case i was just being impatient. it definitely helped but im not sure if i was doin it wrong or what. i did it how twokex told me and also how it did on a different thread on here. also, when i try to force it into gear the rpms dip. any further advice?

Re: clutch help

then your master and/or slave might be leaking/going bad. look to see if the rod from the master cylinder going thru the firewall to the clutch pedal is leaking any fluid on the carpet underneath it. if it is, thats going out.
also go squeeze together your slave cylinder, it should be very very stiff, you shouldn't be able to compress it at all.

Re: clutch help

^^^ true also know it takes some time to bleed the clutch system is not as fast as brakes per say. so when you want to give up and it seems a long time keep on doing it. little pressure will become huge pressure.

Re: clutch help

One huge step that you guys forgot:

Keep the reservoir FULL of fluid the entire time. If you never added fluid to your reservoir, you probably introduced more air than you let out.
