Question for people who've painted their rims

What did you do about the balance weights (or whatever they're technically called)? Pull them off and just re balance the tires after wards or just paint them?
Also, anyone know what company made the 5th gen. base model rims? I was thinking about getting the decal for them, don't want the wrong one though. I know Enkei made the SH model ones.

Re: Question for people who've painted their rims

Wrong section.
I used the adhesive counterweights.

Re: Question for people who've painted their rims

Where are the counterweights that they worry you?

All Honda alloy rims have been made by Enkei for some time.

Re: Question for people who've painted their rims

Well the wheel weights are pretty specific. If you're going to paint your wheels you definately want to take them off otherwise when you change tires and they remove your old weights to reposition and add or remove weight you would have unpaited spots. And save yourself a lot of hassle just take them off, paint them, bring them to a tire shop and have them balance them.

Re: Question for people who've painted their rims

I just popped the weights off and kept them next to the wheel during painting. Then put them back on the same wheels after I was done. It worked out just fine.

Not sure. I put the tires on before I painted them and just had the tire place use adhesive weights then.

For my bros celica we stuck them on the other side of the rim so they were not visible. Then painted the face

That's what I was thinking about doing. I just wasn't sure if they would clip back on after they've been taken off. Or if they would fall off while driving.

They will clip back on. what i would do is mark their position on the tire with tire chalk or some other type of marker, then remove them. once you have them off you can mask off ur tires and sand and paint ur wheels. be sure to give proper cure/bake times to the wheels once theyve been painted before u try to remount the weights or tires. id hate for u to get a good finish and it get damaged by putting the weights on too soon because if they have to rebalance the wheels in the future and the weights have to be put in a different place, u wont have the old weights there to hide the blemishes. i would not recommend baking them with the tires still mounted to the wheels because most booths bake from 180-195 degrees.

I took a soft headed mallet to them to get them back on, but they stayed on there just fine

Iron is any oily metal. It will probably start flaking soon.
