Misfire Codes

I'm trying to figure this out quickly since I have been searching many different forums for similar problems. Which I see a lot of.

Cylinder misfires in 1 and 2 plus multiple misfire. Feels fine actually, but the CEL flashes in my face, I thought I read that is close to injurying the cat in some way.

Anyway.. changed plugs and wires, changed rotor cap not too long ago, cleaned EGR just a week or so ago. Am running injector cleaner.

Just would like some opinions and input is all. Thanks.

Re: Misfire Codes

It could very have well just been your plugs/wires. Just pull your negative battery cable, leave it off for 30 seconds, then put it back on. When you start the car up the CEL will be gone. If it doesn't turn back on BOOM problem solved. If it does turn back on, then run through the list of things to do.

Re: Misfire Codes

What list?

Ran through the injector cleaner and reset the battery. Stayed off for a day and a half and now it's back. Next I would imagine the coil or individual injectors.

Re: Misfire Codes

I didn't know if you replaced the plugs and wires and just forgot or didn't know to reset the codes. To be honest injectors sound like the next thing in line. You may be best off taking to a firestone or somewhere that does diagnostics for free. They will tell you what the problem is.

Re: Misfire Codes

Yah, I had done the plugs and wires. Apparently the firs ttime I did this it was all 4 cylinders and it only fixed 3 and 4. 1 and 2 came back and then tried the cleaner. It was okay for a day or so and the light came back.

I decided I would try one injector in the first cylinder to see if it fixed it or not, otherwise I would decide it was the coil. But before I could even read the codes after the cleaner went through, half way through yesterday, the lights just disappeared.

I don't want to buy an injector if there is not code to compare it to at this point. I suppose I'm just kind of confused that the CEL just decided to turn off.

Re: Misfire Codes

CEL came back had it checked all 4 cylinders now. I think I may go for a fuel pressure regulator. Seem logical?

Re: Misfire Codes

Or you could just take it somewhere that does diagnostics and they will tell you the best places to start looking.

Re: Misfire Codes

Because I failed to answer you 904lude... It's a '99 SH

Now it says cylinders 123, multiple random misfire.

I'm on another string of searches.

Took it to a "diagnostic" tester and they didn't tell me **** that I didn't already know. Changed out fuel filter and pressure regulator, and pcv. Others I've been bordering on is distributer and coil. But I've been thinking about sensors because the CEL starts flashing at me like crazy on hotter days. I questioned an air temp sensor. It's running lean, plugs are white.

EGR code: blocked or broken
*Removed, cleaned, replaced with new gasket
Misfire codes: Cylinders 1-4, multiple random misfire
*Replaced plugs (white) and wires
Misfire codes: Cylinders 1 & 2, multiple random misfire
*Injector cleaner
Misfire codes: Cylinders 1-4, multiple random misfire
*Replace fuel pressure regulator
Misfire codes: Cylinders 1, 2, 3, multiple random misfire? (Read from mechanic sheet)
*Diagnostic test (waste), replace fuel filter, change plugs to NGK (white), and replaced PCV
Misfire codes: Cylinder 1

I checked most of the sensors on the throttle body and such. One on the back that I couldn't hardly see, the map or maf sensor on top, and one on the driver side, which I also don't know what it is. Couldn't remove one on the front without thinking I might break it. Looked like it went to the fuel rail. EGR and solenoid sensor seemed fine. Some strange air box that is pictured below, whatever that is seems to be... fine, I guess. I don't really know what else to check as far as that route goes.

Mmm.. but I found other things that I don't understand either. The pictures show them, if anyone can compare to their car. A strange air box that has a sensor.. no idea what it is. The second picture is the tubes that come from the air box, they are the lower 2 tubes, or the ones more toward the left. A random plug that... is abandoned. And a tube the goes no where.

Re: Misfire Codes

Straight From HONDA!

Description:
Misfire detection is accomplished by monitoring the crankshaft speed with the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor which is
attached to the crankshaft. If misfiring strong enough to damage the catalyst is detected, the MIL will blink during the time
of its occurrence, and DTC P0301, P0302, P0303 and/or P0304 will be stored. Then, after the misfire has ceased, the MIL
will come on. If misfiring that increases emissions is detected during two consecutive driving cycles, the MIL will come on,
and DTC P0301, P0302, P0303 and/or P0304 will be stored.
NOTE: If some of the DTCs listed below are stored at the same time as a misfire DTC, troubleshoot those DTCs first, then
troubleshoot the misfire DTC.

P0106: MAP sensor
P0171, P0172: Fuel supply system
P0401, P1491, P1498: EGR system
P0441: EVAP incorrect purge flow
P1359, P1361, P1362: TDC sensor
P1381, P1382: CYP sensor

Possible Cause:
Fuel injector clogging, fuel leakage, air leakage
Fuel injector circuit open or shorted
Injector resistor malfunction
Spark plug carbon deposits, fouling, malfunction
Ignition wires open, leaking
Distributor malfunction
Compression low
Valve clearance out of spec

How do I post a PDF file on the forum? If I can figure that out I'll post the whole service sheet on here.

Re: Misfire Codes

The "manage attachments" thing says you can do a pdf no more than 19.5 KB.

Oh man.... I never heard any of those other codes mentioned from the people reading them. Just the misfire cylinders, and multiple random. Nothing specific like that. Jeez... I'm just.... I'm screwed...
