Icon6 swap time...obd 2 injectors on an obd 1 motor

so finally got to pulling the motor and tommy came over to give a hand. had it out sitting on the garage floor in no time. so we start switching over the wiring harness and putting on the new timing belt and stuff and we notice a couple funny things

the injectors are obd2 style injector clips. no big deal just a little splicing and soldering.

now everything else on the motor leans toward obd1...no crank sensor or cam sensors...

the block is stamped h22a which is an obd1 closed deck motor.i didn't think they made them open deck until the obd2 years...but the block is stamped 12/97...obd2 years

none of its really an issue just a little curious if anyone has ever seen this before

Re: swap time...obd 2 injectors on an obd 1 motor

it sounds like the TDC and CKP are already in the dizzy not the oil pump, so he doesn't gotta rewire anything.

how many wires are comin off the big dizzy connector, 4 or 8?

actually if u look inside the timing cover it tells you also month and year. but h22a is an obd1 motor...the obd2 motors have a number after, but i think i read that some h22a's in japan were obd2. idk it dont really matter i was just curious

i dont have any issues wiring it. thats not my question...i was just wondering if anyone has seen the mixture of stuff like obd2 injectors and the stuff i mentioned.

and i dont remember the wires cuz its my h23 dizzy is on...my car is obd1 so im not trying to use the obd2 stuff.

tommy (lilbluelude) was like wondering that also but we have had no issues

Re: swap time...obd 2 injectors on an obd 1 motor

oooh okay so your injectors are the black obd2 clips??? that is weird. well if that month and year stamped is 12/97 and the clips are obd2 style... most likely it is a obd2 motor. granted the stamp h22a i dont think states if its obd1 or obd2... i think maybe its related to where it is made.... h22a japan.. h22a1 US... ??? maybe??

Re: swap time...obd 2 injectors on an obd 1 motor

yeah the clips are black...which are obd2 style. but there was no crank sensor behind the pulley. idk weird...ill just have to bypass the resistor box cuz the injectors are saturated vs. peak and hold. should have it in are fired up this weekend. too busy with work for the next couple days.

wonder if it open or closed deck now...not that i really care

i was thinking open deck also b.c its a 97 motor. i think it had the allen bolts in the back...but i never looked at the front.ill look tommorow. im not home or i would look...the motor is clean as hell like i dont think it has 30k miles on it...when we took off the water pump to change it and the seal was not even flattened down around it..and there was no dust inside the timing cover that normally would come from just time.

Re: swap time...obd 2 injectors on an obd 1 motor

The OBD2 injectors are smaller and won't run right I already made that mistake once. I had bad cold starts and terrible throttle response not to mention a noticeable loss of power.

did u try and run them with the resistor box...that is why if u did. its not that they are smaller they are a different style. obd2 are saturated and obd1 are peak and hold..

JDM H22s are going to look like US OBD1 motors from a crank sensor point of view.
